I thought the boards would be hopping with the arrival of regular season NHL hockey. If anything, traffic has dropped off.

Why?

I'm not posting as much because of the Leafs' poor start. It's killing me.

I'm still getting used to there being hockey again after that long layoff. The membership/traffic will increase once people get back into hockey/forgive the owners and players.

Losing late third period leads gets old fast. If Antropov and Poni are " the Twin Towers of Uselessness" then Berg and Belak are Pilons of Perpetual Retardation.

Not very many Canuck fans here. And because TimmyTabasco has not yet been banned. If that poster were banned I would post more. His hatred is obvious and offensive and makes me cry on the inside and outside.

I'm here but I was also wondering where everyone was. I thought the Leafs poor start would attract more fans. ;)
The lounge has been particularly boring in the last week or so. The only thread that seems to get any hits is the song thread.
I'm not sure what the answer is. There have been a few new people signing up but none of them have posted.

I haven't noticed a drop off, in fact site traffic reports show a spike in September which is continuing in October.

As for me, I've been super busy in recent weeks, and have had less leisure time to post/moderate.

Yah it's been dead here since the political forum got sniped. The people that enjoyed it don't come around as often and the people who supposedly hated it have not come back either I guess. Whoever this majority group was? I come to the hockey forum to talk hockey so I don?t really care about the political forum but at the same time the political forum gave the opportunity for a diverse range of discussions. This IMO kept more people hanging around and a better forum crowed all around.

I have to agree with Max as well. I know this is a hockey forum but when there are no hockey topics to discuss the politics forum was a good diversion. Sure there was a little trolling but there were no major fights on there. A well rounded forum is a good thing. I am afraid to post things in the lounge in case they turn into political discussions and I get a warning for it.
Please bring it back as there is so much going on in the world that make great discussions and is a lot less boring than the song thread

A number of people have asked me recently why I have not been posting very much at hockeystation.com. So I decided

to just add this little post. And this thread seems to be an appropriate location. The short answer is that ... Montreal beat Boston 4-3 Tuesday by scoring a powerplay goal while that big friggin' goon Hal Gill was in the penalty box, after Gill took a very very stupid hooking penalty - costing the Bruins the game. Ha! Gill you are a goon and an idiot. I hope Z Chara punches some more of your blood loose and Havlat kicks you in the ... oops sorry ... wrong topic... sorry... very sorry.

Uh, me not posting here much is not at all because the "political forum" has been removed. But it is directly because of the complete restriction on talking about politics and religion - as stated in Welcome to the Lounge, as follows.

No politics or religion, please

Experience has shown that politics or religion can offend some people, and can evoke heated, often unresolvable disagreements. For that reason we strictly do not allow any political or religious discussion at Hockey Station.

I respect that this is a hockey site and some people want the site restricted mainly to hockey chat, and I notice that that the bills are not payed by me. Fine. Myself, when I post at internet forums, I like to talk about whatever comes to mind. And politics, and to a lesser extent, religion, and their victims, are a big part of what makes me laugh. I usually keep my posts fairly clean and mildly respectful - if not on-topic - and I don't often argue with others - but don't p!ss me off you hear me? :] But I cannot imagine hanging around any forum - no matter how much I know and like the posters - where I cannot note religious and/or political hypocrisy and shenanigans... like by, uh, quoting all of the lyrics of the song "Hot Blooded" while posting a picture of the whitest white man ever - Stephen Harper - dressed in tight leather like some bizarre twisted country porn star. I know you'll understand. I'll still post a thought from time to time - hockey only - and lurk a bit. Check it and see. So... see ya around.

OK, it looks like this thread has served any constructive purpose it had any chance of serving.

As far as site traffic being down, The number of unique visitors to the site has increased noticably over the past 3 months. 2 1/2 weeks into October... we have already more than doubled our entire August total, and already surpassed our entire September total by 20%. So the premise of this thread is not accurate.

As for the new lounge policy (which I assume was the real purpose of this thread), that decision was weighed heavily and given careful consideration over the span several months. Ultimately, we decided that was best for the future of this site overall. (even though not necessarily favored by a few current members). All was taken into account in advance. If this was an issue for you, hopefully the site still has enough appeal to bring you around. If it doesn't then life goes on.

Thanks - Mel
