Defenceman Igor Ulanov has been activated from the National Hockey League injured reserve list and will be in the lineup for the Edmonton Oilers? season opener against the Colorado Avalanche tonight at Rexall Place.

Ulanov had been sidelined with a groin strain suffered during the pre-season.

With Ulanov?s return to the roster, defenceman Dan Smith has been placed on waivers for the purpose of assigning him to the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League.

Brunette - Sakic - Laaksonen
Tanguay - Konowalchuk - Laperrier
Wolski - Turgeon - Svatos
May - McLean - Hinote

Blake - Skrastins
Vaananen - Brisebois
Liles - Sauer

Aebischer

Smyth-Horcoff-Dvorak
Torres-Peca-Hemsky
Moreau-Stoll-Pisani
Winchester-Harvey-Laraque

Pronger Staios
Smith Semenov
Cross Bergeron

Conklin

There's NO WAY this game should even be close. The Sakic line will get a steady dose of the Horcoff line, and you have to believe our bottom 9 can beat the bejesus out of the Av's bottom 9.. never mind the defense after Blake

This is all too exciting. However why does this game start so late? 8:30 pm local, meaning I won't see Oiler action until 10:30 pm. GAH! Oh well, it's Opening Night so staying up past one will be an easy compromise.

LET'S GO OILERS!!!

:D

Starts late so that Calgary/Min could have the double header on TSN.

Then why is it tied after the first period? It seems like a fairly close game.

Then why is it tied after the first period? It seems like a fairly close game. The Oilers came out flying, but the Avs have responded well each time.

Now Edmonton is on a two man powerplay. They should begin to pull away soon. ;)

Yeah I've noticed Edmonton pulling way ahead.

Yeah I've noticed Edmonton pulling way ahead.Jarret Stoll scores on a one-timer from Shawn Horcoff. :D

The powerplay goal give the Oilers a 3-2 lead late in the second period.

There is still plenty of time left for the Avs to win.

The Oilers got a huge game tonight from their underrated number one centre, Shawn Horcoff. He scored two goals, including the game winner with three minutes to go, and also had an assist. Horcoff was a monster out there tonight. Great to see.

Judging by tonight's game, Edmonton's powerplay still lacks a killer instinct. I believe they were just 1/7 with the man advantage. They also couldn't capitalize on a two man advantage in the second. But they didn't back down and countinued to press when it was five on five and after the Avs kept tying the game. I am much looking foward to Saturday night.

Considering their depleted lineup, Colorado played well with a lot of resiliency.

Few things from the game..

#1) Wow. Oilers completly dominated. Av's had a good second period, but if not for two mess ups by Ulanov and a ridiculously lucky goal (Laaksonen's) this game wouldn't of even been close.

#2) Horcoff shut a lot of people up.

#3) The PP looked good, and while it only struck once, it ended and we scored a few seconds later from the momentum built from the PP.

#4) Conklin played well. Yes, his SV% blew, but he had no chance on the first two goals (*cough Ullie cough*). He was there when we needed him.

It was a good game. Too bad the wrong team won.

The better team won :)

You don't deserve to win a game when you're outshot 31-16 and the other team has 5 goalposts (which, obviously don't count as a shot).

Good call.

Who the hell was doing the play-by-play? Was it just me or did it sound like he had a lisp?

Dave Randorf (Football guy).

Sakic played 14.5 minutes ES.. for 9.1 of those Shawn Horcoff was on the ice. His game just keeps looking prettier.

Im just so glad to hockey back. The top line really came up big this game, they looked good.. showing some obvious chemistry already. The PP defiantly can use some work, at least we had a goal. The fourth line looked good as well, they're still great at generating momentum. I would really like to see hemsky try and shoot the puck more this season, I seriously think this kid can have a 20 goal season if he would just shoot the puck.

Ulanov mess ups where very out of character for him, hes usually a pretty solid d-man.
