WEST ORANGE, N.J. (CP) - Veteran winger Alexander Mogilny expects to miss New Jersey's season opener Wednesday night because of hip problem.
"I don't want to put myself in a situation where I'm going to make damage to it," Mogilny told the Journal News. "It's a long year. I just want to be ready 100 per cent."
Mogilny said he injured his hip during the second pre-season game. He tried hopping over a stick and something went wrong.
"I had a little setback with my hip flexor," Mogilny said.

That's always a good sign heading into the season.
Oh well, it's never been about big names with this team anyway, they'll just have to find a way to score without him for at least one game. That's okay though, I'm hoping White takes a good run at Crosby at sometime tomorrow.

Wow, is this guy ever healthy?
I guess that's one of the reasons I'm happy he left Toronto, he was never fully healthy and it cost us at times. Jersey needs Mogilny to be healthy because with the loss of Niedermayer, they need someone to pick up a little bit of that offensive slack.

Although Alexander Mogilny doubted earlier this week if he would be able to play tonight, the Devils' right wing said after Tuesday's practice that his strained left hip flexor felt good enough that he "probably" would be in uniform against the Penguins.
"It looks like it's a go," said Mogilny, who missed the team's final three preseason games. "I'd like to play."
Mogilny said he is not concerned that the injury could be a long-term problem. He had surgery twice on the hip in the last two years. Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello originally said Mogilny was bothered by a sore groin.

Rafalski and Gionta, mainly because the rules seem to help out smaller, quicker players. Gio will be counted on for some more goals, and Raffy will replace Niedermayer as the top PP point man. Langenbrunner could have another year like he did in 2002-2003 (22G-33A-55PTS) as well, if he stays healthy.

Boy, I called it with Gionta. 2 goals tonight for the little guy, one of which was absolutely sick. Brylin with 2 goals, and Parise with a goal and assist, which is more than I can say for Crosby.:D

Good to see the Devils kick Team Crosby's ass
Solid game for Brodeur, and a team effort. Looks like there is life after Friesen :coffee:
