The B.C. Lions will have a new kicker in the lineup when they face the Winnipeg Blue Bombers this weekend.

According to Mojo Sportsradio 730 in Vancouver, the Lions have signed kicker Clinton Greathouse to try and push the struggling Duncan O'Mahony in the field goal department.

Greathouse was signed by the Dallas Cowboys in April but failed to unseat incumbent punter Mat McBriar. The former Texas Tech player was released by the Cowboys on August 11. He originally signed with Baltimore as a rookie free agent in 2004 but was released prior to the start of the season.

Greathouse has previous CFL experience, connecting on 14 of 17 field goals with the Calgary Stampeders last season.

O'Mahony's future with the team was called into question following last week's loss to Saskatchewan which saw the former UBC product go 0-for-3 in the game. With the game on the line, Lions coach Wally Buono opted to go with slotback Bret Anderson, who normally handles kickoffs, to try a 48 yard game winning field goal.

O'Mahony has made only 26 of 41 kicks this season and has missed from inside the 40 yard line 10 times.

Buono said afterwards he would not panic when it comes to a decision on O'Mahony's future as the team's kicker.

"Duncan, like any other field-goal kicker is going to go through this." he said. "You have to sit back and make decisions when everything's calmed down.

"We blew some opportunities both offensively and in the kicking game. We weren't sharp. But we can't blame it on one guy. That's not fair."

According to the Vancouver Sun, retired Calgary Stampeders kicker Mark McLoughlin worked out for the Lions on Monday but no decision has been made on whether to offer him a contract or not.

Greathouse will at practice this week and a final decision on who will handle the field goal duties for Monday's game likely won't be made until just before game time. Buono has said that O'Mahony would continue to be the Lions punter no matter what they decide. For years, the kicking department of the BC Lions was near perfect. Lui Passaglia was brilliant, even with groin injuries, he could still kick. There was nothing stopping Lui. A cold, hah, a bullet wound, bah, Lui could snap the ball to himself, hold the ball and kick it through the uprights.

The Lions always knew that if they got it close to the endzone, Lui would 99% of the time make the field goal. After having a kicker like that and then suffer through O'Mahony, is very painful. Hopefully O'Mahony is replaced soon before the Lions blow the entire season.

I remember Greathouse from last year. From what I remember he isn't much of an upgrade.
