The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Blues have signed a letter of agreement to sell the team and the lease to Savvis Center to businessman David Checketts.

Blues President Mark Sauer would not confirm the deal to the paper, which was reportedly consummated Wednesday afternoon.

The NHL Board of Governors has to approve the sale of any franchise in the league.

Checketts, a former NBA executive, was president of the New York Knicks in 1991 and set records for attendance, television ratings and revenue under his watch.

He went on to become president and chief executive officer of Madison Square Garden, the company that owns the New York Rangers, New York Knicks, New York Liberty of the WNBA and Madison Square Garden and the MSG television network.

In September 2001, Checketts founded Sports Capital Partners, a consulting and investment service firm for sports teams.

The Blues were put up for sale by owners Bill and Nancy Laurie on June 17.

Files from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch were used for this report.Glad to see the Lauries out of the NHL. A number of articles I've read about the pair and the entire Vancouver Grizzilies fiasco, don't paint a pretty picture of the two.

They were the ones who owned the Grizzlies when they moved to Memphis?

They were the ones who owned the Grizzlies when they moved to Memphis?NBA rejected their bid for the Grizzlies and Michael Heisley bought the team and moved them to Memphis.

Read this (http://www.commercialalert.org/news-archive.php?article_id=569&month=03&year=2004&day=27th). What a crock. Mrs Laurie is a Walmart heir, makes me dislike her right away.

It is shameful, but if the people of Missouri don't want that name, they should raise 25 million dollars of their own money and tell the University to give back the money to the Laurie's.

The Laurie's could afford to pay for the whole arena, and perhaps they should, since they want their daughters name on it. $25 million in WalMart shares is like what, .1 of 1% of the total value. The girl should atleast attend the school, if her name is to be associated with it. :sign:

What a joke, there daughter attends USC not Missouri. It's amazing what giving a few bucks to a sports franchise can do.

Checketts saw his share of controversy in New York, he took the brunt of the blame and hatred when Messier and the Rangers parted ways in 97.
