Researchers photograph giant squid

TOKYO (AP) - Japanese scientists have photographed a live giant squid in the wild for the first time, ending an age-old quest to document one of the most mysterious and mythologized creatures of the deep sea.
The rest of the story that'll give your children's children nightmares.... (http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Science/2005/09/27/1238201-ap.html)

Can't tell quite how big he is from that pic, but I think that all those little round particles floating around him are planets or something like that.

Very nice. A 26 foot squid would be something to see, in person. Hopefully they will be able to keep some fully grown ones alive in captivity.

Next thing to see is the Sperm whale actually catching one and eating it on camera. That will be cool.

I remember back when I lived in Vancouver, there was a restaurant downtown that had a massive lobster in their tank. I guess it had been caught and it went to the highest bidder - can't remember the name of the restaurant or just how big the lobster was, however, it dwarfed all the other lobsters in the tank. I think it was about 80 years old. Anyhow, word traveled and before you could say "lobster fricassee" the PETA crowd was outside of the restaurant with their picket signs. He lasted about 4 days when some lawyer dude strolled in one night and ordered him... he had a window seat and ate the old timer infront of the picketers and the media... it was classic.

I love it! Sounds like something I would do after about 8 beer. Right in front of them. I'm still laughing.

One night at a movie theatre a friend and I were waiting for our buddy to get the car, 'cause it was freezing outside. There were these two young ladies trying to get in out of the cold but the door was locked, because it was after the last show. So I went and let the young ladies in to warm up. As they were thanking me I casually told them they could help themselves to the snack bar.
"Do you work here?" One asks.
"Work here? F*** I own the place!" I replied.
They seemed happy with that, and ran behind the counter.
I couldn't hold it in any longer and started to laugh. One of them said something about the snack bar being locked. And then the theatre manager, who had been watching it all from a staircase that overlooked the lobby, made himself known. He stopped the girls before they ripped the snack bar apart.
I'm an a$$hole eeeooo eeeooo.... :thumb:

The deep fried calamari rings from that one would be massive.

I have been trying to find the picture that was used to illustrate the size of the thing compared to an average man but so far have come up empty handed.

I did manage to find this one though.
