Ray Emery, Thomas Vanek win AHL monthly awards in April
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (CP) - Ray Emery of the Binghamton Senators is the goaltender of the month in the American Hockey League after winning all six of his games in April.
The 22-year-old native of Cayuga, Ont., posted a 2.00 goals-against average and .927 save percentage for the East Division champion Senators. He ran his personal unbeaten streak to 12 games (10-0-2) with his perfect April. Emery finished the regular season with a 28-18-5 record, establishing a career high for wins.
Other nominees included Tyler Moss of Edmonton and Yann Danis of Hamilton.
Rochester winger Thomas Vanek, meanwhile, won rookie of the month honours. In nine games in April, Vanek scored 11 goals and added two assists.
Other rookie nominees included Edmonton centre Kyle Brodziak and Hamilton's Danis.
