View Full Version : Stop the Knee Drop
I hate it when a QB takes a knee. I think it should be a delay of game or unsportsmanlike penalty with a loss of down and ten yard penalty.
IMO they should play the game until the clock runs out. That has to be better than watching 2 or 3 plays of knee dropping.

Technically taking a knee is a play. It's the equivalent of a QB scrambling and sliding, except he doesn't scramble he just gives himself up and keeps the clock running.

Play or not it is still boring dull and not the way the game should be "played"
The fans should get full value for their money. One aspect of this dropping the knee bu sines makes no sense to me and that is when it's done before half time. The game is still on, no doubt still in question and a QB drops a knee, why? What's the point in not trying to score every play?

You might get intercepted or fumble, and have the other team run it back for a TD.

No I agree with Dave. When a team just does knee drops to run out the clock is boring. They should take a cue from the NBA where the last 30 seconds of a game is the most exciting 3 hours in sports.

This doesn't only happen in football. In the NBA when the shot clock is off in a blowout the player with the ball will just dribble in the same spot till the clock expires. In the MLB your not suppose to steal bases or stretch singles into doubles late in the game when you have a big lead. In hockey when your winning a by a lot late you shouldn't be going out of your way to put the puck in the net, or somebody will certainly accuse you of running up the score.

When your on your 20 yard line with less than a minute to go before the half it's not worth it to run a play, unless you have an elite receiver on your team and a QB with a big arm. As for the fans, if your team is taking a knee it means they kicked ass tonight, and if it's the opponent that's taking a knee chances are the stadium is half empty anyways.
Trying to get rid of the knee in football is pointless IMO. I've heard losing coaches in the past complain when the opposition tried to run a play late in the game instead of taking a knee. Also, coaches will just find a way to get around it. Put your backup QB in and run a dive play up the middle. HOORAY, the ball just moved 1 yard!!!! I'm sure the stadium will be going nuts

Yeah, taking a knee is really no different from what goes on in basketball, hockey or baseball. You take steps to protect your lead and half the time when a team is blown out they really just want to end the game anyways. Most of the time when a team takes a knee it is because they've blown out the other team and don't want to run up the score or they have a small lead, but don't want to give the other team a chance to get the ball back. I have no problem with taking a knee, but I might concede that it gets really annoying when they start doing it like a minute and a half before the game ends.
