This has been talked about on TheFan590. I think it's a good idea. Boston wouldn't be able to afford to match, and the leaf's cap is at about 34 million. He's from the area and may want to go back there. Surely he could help the leafs and he could stick it to the Bruins for lowballing him. What do you think?

Toronto has $39.2 million committed to 21 players, plus two more undisclosed salaries, and that does not include $5.6 million for Owen Nolan, whose salary is in dispute.

I'd file this next to the Zetterberg 'rumour' John.

I caught the geniuses at Sportsnet talking about this too.. Anything for a story
I guess it?s possible but they?d need to dump some salary so essentially give some players away. If they can do it then why not, the leafs are in desperate need of stronger D

Not sure what smoke they got out in SF but the leafs are at 33.945 mil with 21 players. (nhlpa.com (http://nhlpa.com/WebStats/PlayerSearchV2.asp?OIDTeam=9608)) I don't count Nolans contract as it won't matter towards the cap even if he wins his appeal. What is also not in this figure is the bonus totals to Lindros and Allison. Any bonuses reached will count against next years cap. So the leafs could add another player, but a player like Boynton would cost a draft pick in compensation and I would rather see the Leafs keep their picks for the time being.

If they can do a deal at $667,433 or below then by all means go right ahead, make the deal. At or below that number requires no compensation. I guess I could be talked into giving up a 3rd round pick if the deal breaker is anything between $667,433-$917,720, but nothing more then that.

All that being said, its still early but from all accounts big Kronwal is impressing a lot of people. A possible diamond in the rough?

True, but JFJ has said him self that they intend to include those bonuses in this years payroll - they don't want it carrying over to next year. Now, if the Leafs suffer any major injuries or see the need to add a key player approaching the PO's... they have the option of pushing those bonuses into next years cap space. They do have a little room to play though - But, I don't see this happening. A trade for Witt might be something that the Leafs consider as well if they don't find any hope on the D during TC. I predict no moves before the start of the season.

Probably a wise move by JFJ considering the cap could go down next year. If both Lindros and Alison have a good year then the Leafs could be in the same position next year then they are this. With Belfour potentially playing his last season (not sure about his contract?) The leafs might benefit from having lots of space for a goalie and more. Especially if they want Redden or Chara =]

Eddie's contract is done this year. There has been talk that the Leafs would be interested in Turco if he's not under contract by next summer.

They have an option on Belfour's contract for another season. If they don't pick up his option they owe him a million. Who knows whether they will or not, depends on his status this season I guess.

I don't think the Leafs can afford to make an offer for Boynton as he is probably seeking atleast $2 mil a yr.I'd love to see him on the Leafs but it won't happen this yr unless they can work out a trade with the Bruins.

Belfour & McCabe for Boynton & Raycroft?

They might go for it.

I have my doubts.
