We all know that whenever the lock-out gets resolved that we will go from absolute nothing going on in our NHL deprived lives to NHL FA signing mayhem.
Who do you think will be the most sought after FA's after this mess is behind? I'd like to see who everyone thinks will be the first 5 signings once the new CBA is in place.

Do you have a complete free agents list ? I saw somewthing that indicated that most players contract are up in 2006 and 2007, so in fact there could be a lot of turnover in the next few years.

I don't. But there is one here (http://tsn.ca/nhl/feature.asp?fid=9229), now how up-to-date is is with all the expired contracts is beyond me.

It is just ridiculous to sit back and see all those players unsigned. It is almost like the majority of teams can completely change the face of their lineup in one off season, and it's almost at the point where they should just have a huge player draft and sort things out from there, especially with the new CBA when teams like New York, Detroit and Toronto want to spend some money and it turns out their over the limit and they can't go after the guys they want. Oh well, should give clowns like Damien Cox and Steve Simmons things to whine about.

I am truly looking forward for a deal to be reached for the obvious reasons. But this race to sign free agents should bring as much hype as the trade deadline does every year, therefore helping bring back some sort of interest in a game with a seriously damaged image. It promises to be fun and eventful, that's for sure! :thumb:

I read (and heard from Wetcoaster) that as of this July (assuming no deal is struck) there will be only 260 NHL players remaning under contract! Give or take.... but it was around 260... that's out of roughly 750 total.

I love the trade deadline, and all the rumours! :coffee:

It will be even more fun if there is a salary cap in place. I am sure i will have real trouble remembering who is on which team.

Allison will probably be headed to T.O. I could see Palffy going to Ottawa. If Hasek doesn't retire he'll just sign with Ottawa again. That guy Pronger, is he available on the market? That should be an interesting one. Scott Niedermayer has always said his dream is to play for the leafs, so at the end of his contract(at the end of this season IIRC) he could be headed for Maple Leaf Square.

Can this be true ?

So Niedermayer and Allison are heading to Toronto? It's his dream? What Leaf forum did you read that at John?

Actually, I think it's NJ's dream that both players end up in Toronto.

Allison I could see as a possibility, but I don't think Niedermayer would. If there was any team he did want to play for, other than the Devils, I would think it would be Canucks, as they're closest to his hometown. Besides, do you think he wants to play for a team with Tie Domi on it? After the incident in the playoffs a few years ago?

Maybe he wants to be close to Mr. Domi, to put itching powder in his jock-strap. :conspire:

Disagree Johnny. Stop drinking so early in the morning :pimp:

Lets be realistic..Allison will most likely end up with

-Edmonton(need a no.1 center very badly, would enjoy playing there)
-Ottawa(could do wonders for the wingers)
-Atlanta(could play with Heatley and Kov.)

Then there is Toronto, Vancouver, and others..maybe even Columbus.

Palffy will not go to Ottawa. They already have many scoring wingers, why add another? I could see him going to these teams

-Anaheim(now that prospal is gone)
-Devils(need more offense)
-Kings(could resign)
-Isles(had career seasons)
-Wings

Niedermayer recently said his dream was to play for Vancouver, with his brother Rob. Now, I can find the article.. :thumb: If he does leave the Devils..which is highly unlikely..he will most likely..90% likely..join the Canucks.

I could see Pronger joining a team like the Leafs

I have to agree on Niedermayer possibly going to the Canucks, although I don't think he's going to leave New Jersey anyway. With Stevens retiring in the next few seasons, Niedermayer would be the undisputed #1 defenseman on the team, and possibly the captain (although I don't know as if he should have the "C"). Not to mention the fact that I think the Devils are closer to being a Cup contender than Vancouver will be in the next few years. I guess it all comes down to what's more important to him at this point in his career, winning another Cup, or playing closer to home.

It will be interesting though, seeing as he will be a UFA this upcoming offseason. I think he would have been smart to sign the deal he was offered by the Devils prior to his abritration, as he probably won't get as good of a deal anymore.

Can this be true ?Their current roster indicates 15 players.

http://www.bostonbruins.com/team/roster.asp

I guess if 13 of their contracts are up in July, then it could be possible.

(as of now the Rangers have only 3 forwards under contract according to their web site - Jagr, Holik and Nylander)

Why haven't I read this earlier? Let me put my crack down, I'm still laughing.

Tucker for Modano deals are still floating in the air. I heard this from a reliable Maple Leafs source. :]

Demitra, Allison, Lindros.. one of them will very likely be heavily pursued by Edmonton.

Also, apparently Neidermayer wants to play in Edmonton.. something about fast ice and being the undisputed #1 in a city that loves hockey :thumb:

Whats the general feeling on Morozov?

He seems to be the total package..and just needs the right fit to shine. Look at Naslund for example, before his right fit

Morozov did sign in Russia, but could be back next season as a UFA

Would benefit these teams..IMO..

-Canucks
-Oilers
-Kings
-Habs
-TB

Most likely he would thive in an open ice, offense system. Best of all, he is cheap :thumb:

This is a list Amroq found

This obviously doesn?t include a rollback and it looks like it also doesn?t include RFA's or optional contracts i.e Hasek

http://www.andrewsstarspage.com/CBA/2-22-05cba-payrolls.htm
Looking ahead to the 2005-06 season, the Detroit Red Wings have the most money committed to payroll with 16 players under contract for just over $50 million.

At the bottom of the list are the Boston Bruins, who have just $3.8 million committed to four players, according to figures put out by the NHLPA during the collective bargaining process.

The league average team payroll is just under $22 million at this point and the average number of players signed per team sits between nine and ten.

The payroll figures do not include any kind of salary rollback. Each team's list does not include all players under contract. The players listed by the NHLPA were only those who spent at least 90 days on an NHL roster in 2003-04.

Team Players Payroll
Anaheim Mighty Ducks 9 $26.935 million
Atlanta Thrashers 12 $18.900 million
Boston Bruins 4 $3.800 million
Buffalo Sabres 9 $12.039 million
Calgary Flames 11 $16.925 million
Carolina Hurricanes 7 $15.640 million
Chicago Blackhawks 8 $13.480 million
Colorado Avalanche 11 $30.033 million
Columbus Blue Jackets 14 $25.111 million
Dallas Stars 8 $29.699 million
Detroit Red Wings 16 $50.255 million
Edmonton Oilers 12 $17.100 million
Florida Panthers 7 $8.440 million
Los Angeles Kings 12 $20.590 million
Minnesota Wild 10 $18.200 million
Montreal Canadiens 8 $19.050 million
Nashville Predators 9 $13.650 million
New Jersey Devils 10 $20.233 million
New York Islanders 4 $20.500 million
New York Rangers 6 $28.550 million
Ottawa Senators 10 $31.085 million
Philadelphia Flyers 13 $44.451 million
Phoenix Coyotes 21 $37.375 million
Pittsburgh Penguins 7 $7.225 million
San Jose Sharks 10 $17.765 million
St. Louis Blues 13 $31.425 million
Tampa Bay 9 $20.705 million
Toronto Maple Leafs 8 $35.614 million

He has pubically stated he would never play for the Leafs as long as Domi is on their roster. It is worth noting he did so at a gold charity evident, the crowd responded with laughter and clapping. :giggle:

If this is true, do you think this will affect who signs him?

I'm not sure if I can add the link, so I will post some comments..from another forum

Allison became an off-ice distraction when he started talking about why there is no reason why the Kings shouldn't qualify him (while he missed more than an entire season).
Reportedly, at a practice, Allison was critical of the teams effort, and supposedly he was asked to leave by team captain Mattias Norstrom.
Allison also voiced his displeasure with the Kings when they were trying some new lines during training camp and had tried Cammy or Frolov on his wing.

There was also the time when Andy Murray expected Allison to be back at some point during the season, which apparently upset Allison. There have been rumblings here and there that Allison was "milking it" but we don't know if that is a fact. The Carolina Hurricanes, who were interested in Allison last summer, wanted to have him tested by their doctors but Allison and his agent declined.

He is a cancer in the locker room, but when healthy the guy is a machine on the ice
Although not together long the Deadmarsh Allison Palffy line was the best line in the NHL. More Potent tha Bertuzzi Morrison Naslund

To put it gently, He is quite the primadonna and not liked by his team mates....at all.

Don't forget that he has a history of contract squabbles with management in Boston, and this was also reflected when he was upset the Kings wouldn't qualify him....It's too bad because there was a point when I truly believed the LAPD line was one of the NHL's best at the time, and I could see Allison as an on-ice leader/assistant captain...Oh well!

Also, as previously stated, he is not very cordial to fans...

But then you also get this, so to each his own...
sorry when allison bashing gets a little carried away i get a little mad. have any of you haters ever met the guy? i have. he worked charity for the company i work for. i guess he probably cared for his body and took the time out he needed, even as he was still reeling with nasea and vertigo, he made sure he took time out for kids.

yeah a-holes always give money to the needy, or less fortunate, or abused.

team cancers make sure they make tours of so cal hockey rinks. yes, he showed up in yorba linda and aliso viejo. he took time to show my son (4) how to make a stop. he thought it was great that i had him skating that early and said he wishes he started that early. (he might be a better skater) Man, hes such a jerk to fans, who does he think he is talking people like that?

give me a break, alot of these accusations are completely ridiculous. lets make stuff up and then well start believing it because we say it to each other enough.

There's usually some truth to rumors but hopefully they?re not true for whoever signs him. IMO and I'm sure most agree bad blood in the locker room is the last thing you want.

I have a question for sens fans..do you think DeVries will come back as a sen, or be bought out?

If he is bought out, would the sens perhaps look at Aucoin, who is from Ottawa?

Lets say this happens..for googles and giggles. Ottawa gets Aucoin, becomes even more powerful. Vancouver can now sign DeVries, who played his best hockey under the crow..and is more suited to the western conference
