View Full Version : Darren Dreger - Smyth to sign mutliyear deal within 48 hours
Was on the Fan590 and said that Smyth would be signing a 4 year deal paying between 3 and 3.5 a season in the next 48 hours.
:pimp:
Dreger? Wrong.
Oilers, Smyth far apart on deal

By ROBIN BROWNLEE -- Edmonton Sun
The Edmonton Oilers and agent Don Meehan are continuing negotiations on a multi-year contract for Ryan Smyth, but don't expect there to be a deal in place when the veteran winger reports for his camp medical and fitness testing at the U of A today.
Smyth, 29, will be on the ice tomorrow when camp opens at Rexall Place, but indications are Meehan and the Oilers have a big financial gap to close on a four-year deal after exchanging proposals on the weekend.
"They came at us with a couple of different multi-year deals," Smyth said yesterday. "We've replied and now we're waiting to hear back."
As previously reported, the Oilers and Smyth have agreed on a one-year deal -for slightly more than Smyth's $2.698 million qualifying offer - as a fallback position.
Terms of two, three and four years remain possibilities, but the likelihood of settling on the one-year pact grows as each day passes.
"I would love to have had this done months ago," Smyth said.
"If we can't come to terms, we've got the one-year deal in place. We've made strides and they've made strides trying to get this done."

Smyth would look better in Maple Leafs blue anyway. He'd fit right in. By next season he'll be 30.

Smyth will fit perfectly on the '06-'07 Leafs roster right next to Sundin, Naslund, Thornton, and Havlat.

In front of Chara, Redden, Niedermayer, & Luongo.

Now you're talking crazy. Actually Chara, Spezza and Havlat will be in Edmonton after a three-way involving Seeya Kovalchuk and Ales "Great potential... really" Hemsky and a revitalized Igor Kravchuk.

Now come on, the only ones that meet the min. age requirements are Naslund, Smyth and Niedermayer. But Neidermayer is signed for two years isn't he?
Toronto likes their free agents 30 yrs old and up. The extra "leadership" that comes with turning 40 can't be ignored either. Come on in Stevie. OK, Steen, pack your gear, we're stunting your development. Another year in the minors.
Spezza is just what Edm needs. Add Kovalchuk, Luongo and Chara and they're a serious contender.

I think that's because of the phenomenum of Leaf grit. The probability distribution of Leaf grit is quite Gaussian and is centered around the age of 32. This grit inexplicably appears by just being a Leaf. Even in european Leafs.

Optimized Leaf Grit
By comparison, you can see that the Senator Euro-Grit tends to float about without commitment. Obviously Euro-Grit just does not cut it. And Pat Quinn knows this.

Well, Toronto is the center of the universe, and the Leafs are the point from which all things began. ;)
