Just now being reported.. apparently he injured it while training in Finland.

Devastating news. I wonder who the backup would be heading into the season behind Ty? Hopefully Morrison...

That is bad news, but I have no problem with Conklin being the number one. I'd take him over Markkanen any day, that is unless he fails miserably. I feel this will be a breakout season for the young Alaskan with that strong defence in front of him.

Broken collarbone? Man I feel bad for him. I'm still recovering from mine.

Conklin as a #1? Hmmm atleast he's getting a shot while he's young. Unlike Legace who's deserved a shot for years.

Does Conklin have the character for a playoff run?

He had the charachter to be named top goalie at the 2004 World Champs while backstopping a pathetic US team to a bronze medal, including being brilliant in booth OT and the shootout.

So yes.. he has it. It's the experience I worry about.

I think Conklin should do fine, but I wouldn't put it past him to have a bad season. No matter how well he does, I don't think he'll be able to land the Oilers in the finals, yet.

I'm not convinced we have the PP; not even the experience to get into the finals. We're very strong 5x5, we're great on D, and we have all the cogs for an awesome PK. The PP though? Not so much. Pronger improves it, and Hemsky should help it, but if this becomes a top 10 PP I'd be shocked. 12-18. We still have 2 very young guys in the top 6. Hemsky was invisible his first time round in the playoffs, and Torres has never played in them. Hemsky was also the Czech league playoff MVP though... hard to peg him.

Average goaltending can get you into the final's on the back of great 5x5 and PP/PK play, but we're still one player away from that.

Well as long as Conklin is good enough to get Edm in the playoffs with Cgy and Van.
