The season starts on Thursday as the Raiders take on the Patriots. I'm looking for an upset in the season opener. Maybe I'm overrating them, but I think the Raiders offense will be able to carry them this season. Collins throws the deep ball well, and now he has a guy in Moss who'll make plays when he chucks it into triple coverage. Porter and Curry are also players that should benefit from the presense of Moss. Jordan could have a big season on the ground, but he was a backup last year in NY, so we'll see how he holds up getting 25 carries a game. Generally speaking though, Norv Turner's feature backs do well.
My Packers open the season against the Lions. Should be an interesting game, because the Lions offense has the potential to be elite and Harrington should be able to make plays against our defense. For the Packers, we added Jim Bates as our defensive coordinator, but that alone shouldn't be enough to keep this defense from finishing near the bottom of the league. Which means Favre will be once again launching the ball down field, and the running game will be neglected.
Anyways, talk about the opener, or how your team will be doing going into the season, but lets get some NFL talk going :thumb:

Patriots will prove that the Raiders have been the most overhyped team of the summer when they destroy them. Moss is great, we all know that. But over the summer Kerry Collins and LaMont Jordan have been preached about as them being elite players when their not. Collins will still throw over 20 picks and LaMont Jordan was a backup for like 3 years and everyone expects him to just run people over and lead the league in rushing.
As for the Eagles, they look set to once again prove they are the best in the NFC. Trotter will start at MLB for the whole year and hopefully Kearse will have an even bigger year now that he is accustomed to the team. I think our defnese could finish in the top 5. The same goes for our offense but I'm just a little worried about the TO/McNabb not being on speaking terms thing.
Good thread. I think one of these should be created for every week of the season to keep things uncluttered.
Did you know? The Denver Broncos were the only team to come away with a perfect 4-0 record in the pre-season. I know it means nothing and I hate meaningless games, but the Broncos are underrated. They take on the Miami Dolphins in week one. Thanks to the schedule makers for that.
I'm looking for an upset in the season opener. Maybe I'm overrating them, but I think the Raiders offense will be able to carry them this season. Not a chance. Adding Moss to that disfunctional team was like taking one step forward and two steps back. Oakland will not have a successful season and they'll find themselves on the bottom of the AFC West yet again at the end of December.
Colts/Ravens will be the game of the week.
Manning will get rocked, and that will be the storyline

I don't think that the Broncos are underrated. They are given just the amount of respect that they deserve. The teams in their division, with the exception of San Diego, made some big moves this offseason. KC brought in Kendrell Bell, Patrick Surtain, and Sammy Knight. Then they drafted Derrick Johnson. Oakland nabbed Randy Moss from the Vikings. And even though the Chargers were busy resigning their key guys, they still had 2 1st round picks, Shawn Merriman and Luis Castillo. The Broncos just haven't been that big of a story this offseason. Drafted Clarett, then cut him. They also adopted the Cleveland Browns D-line.......um, yeah, why do you think they were all available??? Every single one of them have been labeled a bust or just not good. I think the Broncos will be fightin for second place in the AFC West and a wildcard once again.

I think that the Patriots will eat the Raiders alive. Kerry Collins isn't exactly known for not throwing the occasional pick and the Patriots will kill you if you keep that up. The Detroit Lions looked brutal in the pre-season (especially Joey Harrington) and with Jeff Garcia injured they could be in for quite a long season, folks.
I think that teams to look out for include the Cincinnati Bengals, Buffalo Bills and Carolina Panthers. They should be exciting teams to watch.
I hate the Pats.
Stupid Pats.

They're good...you gotta hand that to them.
They're good...you gotta hand that to them. And Belicek is going to be hammering the D all this week and next about giving up 20 points. I'm sick of the hearing about them but I can't argue against their success.

Wow, that was pretty much exactly the way I saw the game goin....Moss would have his stats but the Raiders would still lose by double digits. They just have no defense, they were lucky enough to get that blocked kick. But I also saw some things wrong with the Pats. Like that last TD where Anderson was wide open. For a team that stresses defense and is supposed to be the bench mark for defense in the NFL, leaving someone that open, especially a guy that had already caught a TD in that game, just didn't look right for the Pats.

That game could not have gone more perfectly. The Pats won and they kept the o/u under 51. I'm happy. :)
As for the game, I thought through the first part of the game we saw signs that Kerry Collins was going to have a great season but that quickly evaporated as the game went on. He still did show signs of brilliance throughout the game but he lost his consistancy. Then again, they were playing perhaps the best team in football; maybe they will have better fortune next week.

Kerry Collins is a solid quarterback just can't quite get over that hump that would make him an elite quarterback. His problem has always been the interceptions over the years from Carolina and New York.

That INT problem is exactly what keeps Collins from being a solid QB. He seems to have the arm for throwing but he just doesn't make the right decisions. He also has that fumbling/sack problem. As long as he is a turnover machine there will be no defense that fears about him in the slightest bit. In fact I'm sure that the better defenders in the league(Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Brian Dawkins, Julius Peppers, etc.) would love to play against Collins and pad their stats with an INT, FF, FR, or a couple of sacks.

Colts/Ravens will be the game of the week.
Manning will get rocked, and that will be the storyline
Last year's match up was exciting. The playmaking being made on the field between Ray Lewis and Peyton Manning was a sight to see, both calling plays as they read the field. What it basically comes down to is: Will the Ravens defense prevail?

I think the Ravens will come out on top this time. Last year, the Colts were at home but this year the game is in Baltimore and the defense is better. Samari Rolle is a great upgrade from Gary Baxter and Terrell Suggs playin with his hand down will add that much needed pass rush. Also, Peter Boulware was also hurt for that game, I believe. That should be another problem that Manning has to take into account.
Without subscribing to NFL Sunday Ticket, these are the games I receive tommorow:
1:00 p.m.
New York Jets at Kansas City Chiefs.
Houston Texans at Buffalo Bills.
Denver Broncos at Miami Dolphins.
New Orleans Saints at Carolina Panthers.
Seattle Seahawks at Jacksonville Jaguars.
4:00 p.m.
Dallas Cowboys at San Diego Chargers.
Green Bay Packers at Detroit Lions.
It should be grand. Let's all enjoy the return of meaningful Sundays. Welcome back, NFL. :D

Carr only had three turnovers himself, not that bad. :conspire: Where's your god now David? What an awful game. The defense did alright considering they were on the field for about 98% of the game, and Buffalo usually started off w/ good field position. I think that is the only thing to build off for next week as the offense was brutal.
The Jets game was ridiculously bad.
Julius Jones just busted for 10 yards.. anyone else watching Chargers/Cowboys? I'\ll be in the chat.

Face it, Bob, the Texans O-line sucks. Until its fixed Carr will be getting killed, and the offense will never be any good.

Er...ah...I'm not sure if I wish to discuss this weeks events. They didn't exactly turn out very well for me. Wow, my Vikes need an offensive line.
Torn ACL for Walker.
Great game taking place in Baltimore.. absolute slug fest. If not for some dropped balls on both sides it'd be about 13-13.
Amazing how one bad penalty can change the game from 3-0 to 17-0.
:curse:
Well played, Dolphins. Enough said. Moving on now to week two versus the 0-1 Chargers.
Most members' NFL Picks records are not pretty. ;) Ah, the beauty of parity.

Well the Bucs did play a great game I give them that.

Carolina Panthers DT Kris Jenkins out for the season with a torn ACL. That sucks. The injury bug continues for Carolina.
MNF -- Rematch of the Eagles vs. Falcons
Can't wait. Got my Dawkins jersey on and the beer is cold. :)

I had flashbacks of Culpepper's miserable season all day yesterday, turning the ball over 4 times just by himself.:curse:
The thing that surprises me is that the Vikings had a chance to win the game late, despite the turnovers and 2 TD's called back on penalties (one of which was complete BS). They just didn't take advantage when they had the chance, and it cost them. Losing Birk for the season is going to affect the offensive line for awhile, and it showed yesterday. Hopefully it was just one of those days this week, and they can rebound on the road against the Bengals.

The offensive line was pretty brutal yesterday. Losing Birk is really going to hurt them that is clear. What was with them starting Moe Williams at RB? I know Bennett is hurt, but where was Moore?
I'm not panicking yet, but they had better come out looking better at Cincy next week.
I figured I would use this (EXTREMELY THIN) window of opportunity to point out that my beloved Giants lead the NFL in scoring by a WIDE lead.

Miami 34.0

Wow...you should fall asleep for most of their games, Amo!
Jeremiah Trotter and Kevin Mathis have been ejected..
Trotter got ****ed.

That Redskin QB can really take a hit can't he. Lance Briggs clotheslined the hell out of him. I don't think he meant it but it was pretty mean lookin.
And Culpepper single handed lost me my fantasy football game in my money league. He put up -10 points while the rest of my team only put up 9. Oh well.
And now I just heard about some fight between the Eagles and Falcons before the game and there are people that won't be playin. That sucks, I only heard about Trotter but it sounds like there were a bunch more.
The No Fun League strikes again.

Seriously though that was a great story yesterday with the Giants winning at home on September 11th. Also the 49ers, the worst team last year, upset the Rams and won in their first regular season game since the death of Harrion. And last but not least, "America's [new] Team," the New Oreans Saints get a heros welcome in Charlotte, North Carolina and they beat the very good Panthers in the best game on Sunday.
Great stuff, NFL. :thumb:

Eerie...the loss of Trotter for the Monday game really killed the Eagles. They ended up giving up 200+ yards in rushing.

I agree and think the Eagles would have won that game if Trotter played but he didn't and you won't see me complaining!
In that game McNabb got a bruised chest by a helmet hit by Lavlais and the league has fined him a measley $7,500 for what could have been a serious injury. This fine seems like a real joke to me and the NFL should get their act together and make punishments for these kinds of hits more severe than a paltry little fine! How about atleast a 1 game suspension?
Cheers

Agreed, that hit should have definitely been fined more. Trotter got fined $10,000 for defending himself. The NFL has to come to a quick conclusion about how to sort out their finings, because if that hit had cost McNabb a month I guarantee that this guy would have been fined more. The NFL needs some serious work on that, whether a player is injured should have nothing to do with a fining. But ya know, if McNabb hadn't even of gotten hurt, then this guy probably wouldn't have been fined.
