There has been much speculation over who Nonis will trade for. He will for sure add another defender.

So the question remains..

Which defender would you prefer?, and why?

Colin White has been a favourite of mine for several seasons. Responsible and steady. Not flashy but has been well coached in the New Jesey system. Jersey has cap issuses so he could be had for some prospects (not Kessler).

Jason York would make too much sense. He's not flashy, nor is he physical; but he gets the job done, and against stiff competition to boot. He could be had relatively cheaply, and would be a great partner to Useless Cop.

Salei

The Canucks are going to need a physical, nasty defenseman. Especially when they play Calgary, and Edmonton.

Salei is that guy. He can play a mean game, and is a tough guy to play against. The man is also a workhorse on the blueline

Jovo-Salei

Looks good to me

Boynton also would be most excellent. He fits the Canucks needs perfectly. However, Boston would ask for too much.

York could be a decent third pairing defenseman, but I wouldn't pair him with Jovo

:relief :boogie: Four votes, what a success :violin:

Anyway..so far..no defenseman

Salei signed a 1 yr deal with Anaheim..for $1.8 million. This means he likely will not be traded. However, you never know

Van Ryn looks interesting. He's a RFA, and put up decent numbers the last season. Moves the puck well, and plays a solid all around game.

Boynton too..is still a RFA..and is really the sort of defender the team needs.

Hopefully Nonis and Tambs wake up, and get something done. The defense needs attention. If that means trading Cooke, so be it

Yeah I agree White would be a great pick up. He's a solid player who plays like he has the experience of a 35 year old but is only 27. If Lou is willing to deal him, and if Nonis is serious about dumping Cooke, I say go for it.

Boynton is the best all round player in that group. He will be a steady D-man for years.

Yeah, if only the Canucks could land him.

I think he would be most excellent as a canuck. The Canucks would have a very solid defense with his addition.

The guy is still a RFA, so anything is possible :coffee:

I don't think Dave "Fatboy" Nonis will make any more transactions. Just my feeling but I think who the Canucks have is who they will start the season with.

Where's that "slap" sound when you need it?

Nonis has said many times he will make a trade for a defenseman, or thru the UFA market.

It is apparent that Cooke will most likely be included in a deal

Hopefully he gets it done sooner, rather than later

As for slapping me; bring it on.http://www.watchfarscape.com/forums/images/smilies/1041289817.gif

Nonis did trade for a DMan.

Steve McCarthy...

He never said it'd be a good defenseman :).

As a completely unbiased fan, I'd say White is the best choice for the Canucks, even though I'd hate to see him leave New Jersey. He's big, physical, and is solid in his own end. Offensively, he'll probably never amount to more than 30 points a year (and that's probably pushing it), but he might be a good fit with "Special Ed" Jovanovski.:D

Well, lets hope Nonis can get something done

However..as I have mentioned..I also really like Salei, and Boynton. If either of these three become a canuck, I am a happy man :thumb:

I'm not sold on McCarthy

However, I do think we should see how the new rules help his game. Also, on how he would play in the Canucks offensive system

That deal may be a very good one, longterm
