View Full Version : Stupid People
Ontario has banned pit bulls and a few other dogs as of Sept. 1. but most people wouldn't know one if they tripped over it. To-day while I was looking after the 10 yr old white boxer, with a black patch over her right eye, the bylaw officer came by to make sure she wasn't a dangerous dog. Some freaking stupid neighbour thought that my buddy was a pit bull.
Doh ........ she is alot taller than a pit bull, has a different jaw structure, is old and lovable, wouldn't hurt a flea (but sometimes chases my cat for the fun of it); doesn't have the energy to harm anyone never mind the teeth.
My cat is more dangerous than this dog ever was.
Talk about false panic. What is with this hyper-alert society? According to them I should have died ages ago. I grew up without most of these regulations and had birth issues as well. Heck according to the attending doctor I was supposed to be dead 32 yr ago & my mom was supposed to die 74+ yr ago. Get a gri[ people we all die in our own time. It is inevitible.

The 'higher ups' in Ontario have a very socialist way of thinking Sue. <See Smoking Bi-Laws, the pending Pesticide Bi-Law, and now this>
Thank good-ness they know what's best for us..
I am a socialist but I have a brain, I can think, I can research, I can hopefully make logical decisions. I think the yellow press has too much influence over the wrong items. OMG we are supposed to think that there were thousands of deaths in New Orleans but the mayor actually said "ITCOULD be in the thousands.
I actually agree with the pesticide law because when my neighbour has his lawn done I get sick to my stoomach and so does my cat. I will never go ballistic over it until my inhaler doesn't work for it.

I had a baby cousin attacked by a pitbull. This pitbull was 12 years old and never hurt anyone in its life. One of those lovable dogs you speak of. Dogs like that(Dovermines[sp?] are the same thing) can snap at anytime.
A neighbour a few doors down from me was mauled by a pit bull last summer. He is old, and is still in bad shape. According to the owner of the dog, its never hurt a flea in its 10 years of exhistance.
That being said, what we all have to remember is, these are animals we are speaking of. We make pets of them and call them part of the family. But they are animals, and have animal instincts and sometimes those natural instincts will take hold of an animal, any animal and do what comes natural to them. Personally I think all dogs or animals that people have as pets should be muzzled when out in the public, because its not just the pit bull thats attacking people. When I was 10 I was bit by a freeking poodle! A tetnis shot at frikken 10 is not good!!

Doberman is the correct term.
All dogs were bred for a purpose. When these dogs are given to people who don't know exactly how to raise them, what's been bred into them can come out. Now I've known some very, almost overly, friendly pits. At the same time because of the charcteristics that have been bred into the species once they get excited I leave. It is almost like a switch once the adrenaline gets pumping. The agressive nature becomes more apparent, and although in no real danger myself the dog clearly comes across as dangerous. Even a good dog will bite if you put your hand out at the wrong time. And unfortunately for dogs that have been bred for violence and agression any point during an adrenaline rush or boost can be the point where the inbred viciousness of the breed comes out. The dog can't really help it. It is up to the owner to teach the dog proper behaviour. Which is basically teaching the dog to suppress the natural charcteristics that it's ancestors were bred for. It is not the dogs fault that we bred it this way. But the bad reputation of any breed has to rest on the individual owner and their skill or lack there of in raising a dog. A few bad apples can spoil it for all. In the end it is easier to ban a breed than it is to enforce owner training and behaviour.
Who doesn't like playing tug-o-war with their dog? But did you know that a simple game like that teaches a dog agressive behaviour. It is not recommened for pits or rottis.
I was not arguing that pitbulls can't be bad but was saying that people are going too far in their identification of "pitbulls". Boxers and pitbulls have very little in common. Boxers were originally working dogs whereas pitbulls were bred for fighting.

The confusion between Boxers and Pitt Bulls is a common one. When people hear "Pitt bull", many get the image of a "Bull dog" in their head. When people see a "Boxer" they are reminded of a "Bulldog" and therefore think of the term "Pitt Bull". This is of coarse, a very erroneous misconception because the Boxer is one of the friendliest breeds of dog around.
