When I read this I almost threw up.

Family fears their cat cooked

WINDSOR?A woman who left her home in the temporary care of a couple returned to make a gruesome discovery in the refrigerator: a pot containing the remains of what appeared to be a cooked cat.

"It is strange, there is no question about it," Windsor police Staff Sgt. Ed McNorton said yesterday about the alleged killing and eating of the pet. "We've seen animal abuse before ... but nothing like this."

Officers were called to a west-end duplex Sunday night by a woman who had left her apartment in the care of a 24-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman.

The tenant came home to find the place abandoned and in disarray. Then she looked in the fridge.

"It was absolutely disgusting, I couldn't believe it," said neighbour Sherry Hughes, who entered the apartment and saw the animal's remains.

Police suspect it's all that's left of Prowler, who lived with the Hughes family and went missing less than a week earlier.

"It's very upsetting, very, very heartbreaking," said Hughes, adding her children and grandmother are distraught.

The couple that lived temporarily in the house were interviewed by detectives yesterday morning and released pending further investigation.

It's funny how some pets are OK to eat, but others are not.
If "Fluffy" is your cat and you eat it . . .It's cruelty to animals.
If "Fluffy" is your rabbit . . .It's good stew.
Kind of a double standard here.

A friend of mine bought a pig, with the intention of having some nice bacon sandwiches.
Well, his kids named the thing. . . then it moved into the house.
Finally, when the hog was about 500 lbs, he took it to be slaughtered.
He sold the meat, as he couldn't bear to eat delicious "Wilbur" ham

Now don't get me wrong, I wouldn't eat feline "Fluffy". . .but rabbit stew . . .Mmmmm!

The animals know it too. When you see a rabbit, what does it do? It hops away from you in fear. He knows he has a fair chance of getting eaten by you.

Now the cat for example, he walks around your house and makes himself at home. he sits on your lap and naps by the window. (one of the reasons I hate cats is because they sleep so much, but that's for another topic). They don't live in fear.

But how, HOW are the really sure that you're not going to eat them??? How do they know without a doubt that they shouldn't run away like the rabbit or squirrell?

You're right there is clearly a double standard.

I grew up on a hog farm. The animals that my brothers and I had were all named. One of my little brothers freaked out at the dinner table one day as I tenderly cut into a slice of pork steak, drew it to my mouth and before eating it I exclaimed, "boy, Floppy sure tastes good! mmmmmmmmm..." and popped it into my mouth.

He went ballistic! He didn't know Floppy (his fave. pig) was at dinner with us that day. He threw his fork down in disgust and pushed his plate away. I laughed even louder when Mom gave him a smack on the back of the head and told him to finish his food.

No it's just instinct. Rabbits run from us out of instinct that we might turn them into supper.

Cats don't..... it makes you wonder. :conspire:

There is a difference

Cats and dogs are domesticated, while pigs, and whatever else..are not. They are bred..basically to eat

We as society do not breed cats and dogs for food. We breed them for companionship..and have done so for years

Its basically sick. This cat had people that loved it. Say what you will, but its true..you make a connection to a pet.

I say the two teens deserve to work at a pig plant for 10 years.

It's true, I have a rabbit. He's a little shy around strangers... but pretty comfortable with the misses and me. He'll hide for an hour when someone new comes in... like a scaredy cat...ironic. Anyhow, he's more trusting with me... he's not yet aware that I'm slowly eating him...it started about a year ago when I'd give him warm baths in tasty broth. Since then I've been using his parts in different dishes...now he can't even hop around anymore...just drags himself around using his ears. Feel kinda' sorry for the littel guy. But, cats? HmmmYum.

I have had a pet rabbit and many cats and wouldn't eat any of them. Wild rabbit however is fair game (as long as I don't see the bunny with its fur on.)

Eating pets is just wrong, it's almost canibalistic.
*my cat made me type that under threat of severe scratching*

We'll save that for a whole other recipe thread.

Roast Cat as You Wish to Eat It

Source [Libre del Coch, R. Carroll-Mann (trans.)]: 123. Roast Cat as You Wish to Eat It. You will take a cat that is fat, and decapitate it. And after it is dead, cut off the head and throw it away because it is not for eating, for they say that eating the brains will cause him who eats them to lose his senses and judgment. Then flay it very cleanly, and open it and clean it well, and then wrap it in a cloth of clean linen. And bury it beneath the ground where it must be for a day and a night; and then take it out of there and set it to roast on a spit. And roast it over the fire. And when beginning to roast it, grease it with good garlic and oil. And when you finish greasing it, whip it well with a green twig , and this must be done before it is well-roasted, greasing it and whipping it. And when it is roasted, cut it as if it were a rabbit or a kid and put it on a big plate; and take garlic and oil blended with good broth in such a manner that it is well-thinned. And cast it over the cat. And you may eat of it because it is very good food.

Well, at UVic, the university I go to, there are rabbits running around everywhere. One could say they have been breeding like rabbits there. They are so accustomed to the thousands of people walking by them every day that they do not live in fear of humans. I can walk right up to any rabbit there, they run right in front of me, they hop up to me, etc. etc. (I can't post the rest of what I had here for some technical reasons  )

Well I'm just going by my own experience. We have a mini rabbit epidemic where I live... they just started popping up one spring. And now they're common.

When humans come near them they run like hell. (hop like hell) :conspire:
