View Full Version : K-Lowe: The cap will NOT go down
From an interview on the radio; basically said that the market will take 2-3 years to balance out, hence some of the weird contracts, but leaguewide a lower cap is not anticipated as seasons tickets and coroporate sponsorships are booming in "virtually" every market.
Just as I expected. The league can't sink lower, can it?

Well it is a very optimistic view, but looking at it realistically it is impossible to base your opinion with only 2 months since hockey's been back in business. First of all, with a very uncertain TV deal right now, the game is going to be harder to promote and if the league cannot get a decent viewing audience in the States, they are going to lose the TV revenue, and that will take a major bite out of the amount of money the league brings in. Secondly while there are "booms" in markets now, who's to say that those booms slowly but surely fizzle when teams start losing and people stop paying attention in markets where the fanbase is "shaky". I'm sure most NHL people are optimistic now, but to come out and say the cap won't go down is a very misleading comment based on the fact that not a single game has been played yet and a sudden jump in sales doesn't mean that it will continue over a season. And remember this is coming from someone who wants the cap at like 45-50 million :thumb:
