I want to go home and sleep.
Last night was game 1 of a 5 game final series for division 6 of the Alberta Men's Hockey League. I hadn't played for over a week and a half and was a little nervous to begin with.
After the first period it was 4 zip for the Chiefs (the other guys). I was kicking myself for letting in 2 identical goals from the off wing on my stick side. I shoulda had them both. One other goal was a pretty pass to buddy on my right post for a tap in. I slid across with my pad outstretched but he put it upstairs. The other goal was a scramble in my crease and I made the first stop paddle down but I couldn't grab the puck and it bounced out where buddy popped it in. I got a piece of it but not enough.
Second period was scoreless.
Third period we tied it up. 4-4 and with a minute left the refs missed an obvious 2 line pass to the cherry picker and he came in on a break away. He scored with 54 seconds left in the third. It was a nice deke to my stick side and I had my leg down but he got it past my blocker.
One more empty netter and the final was 5-4.
I'm looking forward to tonight's match. I think we can take them if we play as we did in yesterdays 2nd and 3rd periods.
Kick ass slappy.
And when you are parading that cup around think of me....................an old decrepid goalie who never really won anything!

Kick ass slappy.
And when you are parading that cup around think of me....................an old decrepid goalie who never really won anything!
Well...I'm back from game 2. The series is knotted at one a piece.
After the first period it was 3 to 1 for the Chiefs. I wasn't having a bad game but I wasn't stealing the game either (not in the first, anyway!). First goal pissed me off....a slapper from the top of the circle with a pile of players in front. I saw the puck clearly but one of my D-men had one of the forwards tied up and the puck hit the shaft of the forward's stick and it changed direction at the last second and blew by me on my glove side. Second goal was scored from the top of the slot and deflected off another of my D-man's skate. Crappy luck. Third goal was a clear cut winner....partial breakaway and he deked me stick side and managed to stuff it on stick side.
The second period ended with them up 4-2. The fourth goal was kinda cheesy as I gambled (but expected some help from my D). We did a very poor job of forechecking in our zone and the puck went back and forth in the slot area like a pinball as I was moving lateral back and forth. Buddy to the left of me gained possession and I rapidly moved out of my crease to shorten the angle (figuring he'd have a hard-on and just shoot)...well, he did but it deflected off of someone's leg and over to my far right where one of their wingers was sitting there with a gaping open net.
Fortunately for us we tightened up our defensive zone coverage...it's odd saying that, because I think I faced the majority of my shots in the 2nd and 3rd periods.
The third period was hard fought and we pressed in their zone. I faced a couple of two-on-ones and managed to hold the fort. We netted a goal to bring us up to 4-3. With a minute and half left one of their players got a clean breakaway pass and I managed to stone him as he tried to deke stick side. It was a juicy rebound off my right pad that went right to my D-man who carried up to their zone. We managed to score on that play with only 1:13 left in the 3rd. to tie it up.
OT and we immedeatly took the puck into their zone. From the blue line one of our D wound up and slapped it to their goal to have it deflected by one of our fowards 36 seconds into overtime!
The series it now down to 3 games. Unfortunately their reg. netminder will be back from Tee-Oh (he was there on business) so this might be my last game of the year. I'm happy as I finsihed the year on a winning note.
Hopefully, I will get on a team next year full-time. Overall, it was an interesting year. Even though I wasn't on a regular team I still managed about 55 games this season.
Right on slappy.
Lets hope you do get a chance to play at least one more game.

The US standard railroad gauge (distance between
the rails) is 4 feet, 8.5 inches. That's an
exceedingly odd number.
Why was that gauge used?
Because that's the way they built them in England,
and English expatriates built the US Railroads.
Why did the English build them like that?
Because the first rail lines were built by the
same people who built the pre-railroad tramways, and
that's the gauge they used.
Why did "they" use that gauge then?
Because the people who built the tramways used
the same jigs and tools that they used for building
wagons, which used that wheel spacing.
Okay! Why did the wagons have that particular
odd wheel spacing?
Well, if they tried to use any other spacing,
the wagon wheels would break on some of the old,
long distance roads in England, because that's
the spacing of the wheel ruts.
So who built those old rutted roads?
Imperial Rome built the first long distance
roads in Europe (and England) for their legions. The
roads have been used ever since.
And the ruts in the roads?
Roman war chariots formed the initial ruts,
which everyone else had to match for fear of
destroying their wagon wheels.
Since the chariots were made for Imperial Rome, they
were all alike in the matter of wheel spacing.
The United States standard railroad gauge of 4
feet, 8.5 inches is derived from the original
specifications for an Imperial Roman war chariot.
And bureaucracies live forever. So the next time you
are handed a specification and wonder what horse's
ass came up with it, you may be exactly right,
because the Imperial Roman war chariots were made
just wide enough to accommodate the back ends of two
war horses. Now the twist to the story...
When you see a Space Shuttle sitting on its
launch pad, there are two big booster rockets
attached to the sides of the main fuel tank. These
are solid rocket boosters, or SRBs. The SRBs are
made by Thiokol at their factory at Utah. The
engineers who designed the SRBs would have preferred
to make them a bit fatter, but the SRBs had to
be shipped by train from the factory to the launch
site. The railroad line from the factory happens to
run through a tunnel in the mountains. The SRBs had
to fit through that tunnel. The tunnel is slightly
wider than the railroad track, and the railroad
track, as you now know, is about as wide as two
horses' behinds.
So, a major Space Shuttle design feature of what
is arguably the world's most advanced transportation
system was determined over two thousand years ago by
the width of a horse's ass. ... and you thought
being a HORSE'S ASS wasn't important!

MARS SPECTACULAR!
The Red Planet is about to be spectacular! This month and next, Earth is catching up with Mars in an encounter that will culminate in the closest approach between the two planets in recorded history. The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287. Due to the way Jupiter's gravity tugs on Mars and perturbs its orbit, astronomers can only be certain that Mars has not come this close to Earth in the Last 5,000 years, but it may be as long as 60,000 years before it happens again.
The encounter will culminate on August 27th when Mars comes to within 34,649,589 miles of Earth and will be (next to the moon) the brightest object in the night sky. It will attain a magnitude of -2.9 and will appear 25.11 arc seconds wide. At a modest 75-power
magnification Mars will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. Mars will be easy to spot. At the beginning of August it will rise in the east at 10p.m. and reach its azimuth at about 3 a.m.
By the end of August when the two planets are closest, Mars will rise at nightfall and reach its highest point in the sky at 12:30a.m. That's pretty convenient to see something that no human being has seen in recorded history. So, mark your calendar at the beginning of August to see Mars grow progressively brighter and brighter throughout the month.

Yeah, and the poll makes no sense. Hunting a few bears is not gonna reduce any number of bear mawlings. And bear attacks are so rare anyway. The first sentence in the poll question is also misleading, and leads the reader to believe that there is a problem and something should be done about it. I've had a few courses involving making proper surveys/questionnaires/polls, and this is the definition of the worst case scenerio. I mean, to give an example here's the same distortion but from the other way:
You are more likely to get struck by lightning several times a day than ever be attacked by a bear. Do you think hunting should be stepped up in the name of public safety?

This whole thing with the bear is silly. The moral of the story is don't walk on closed trails and thou shalt not be consumed by a bear.

The porcupine is the only animal that never poops, he exudes waste from his pores!
Ants don't poop either. Don't ask me how I know these things.
They do pee though, since all ants eat is liquid food :D
HAHA i found some more info on amimals pooping. Weird yeah i know, but i was doing research to see if ants poop.
The skipper caterpillar is just an inch and a half long but can shoot its poop a distance of six feet.
Rabbits produce 500 pellets of poop a day
Geese poop, on average, once every 12 minutes. Sloth, on the other hand, poop only about once a week.

SAGUENAY, Que. -- A Canadian Forces CF-18 fighter jet has crashed in Quebec at 8:40 AM Tuesday, but the pilot ejected safely.
Canadian military staff at Canadian Forces Base Bagotville confirm that a search is underway to find the pilot in the Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean region of the province, about 250 kilometres north of Quebec City.
Cause of the crash is not known and weather conditions are believed to have been good at the time.

Pilot's supposed to be fine. Ejected safely.
I beleive the CF-18 is American made, but I could be wrong. I do know that our pilots go to the States for the Top Gun Competition and we have won in recent years, flying the CF-18.
I beleive the CF-18 is American made, but I could be wrong.
American yes. Made by an obscure little US company called McDonnell Douglas - who merged with another obscure little American company called Boeing in the late 90s. The Canadian CF-18s are similar to the US Navy F-18 Hornets. They're getting long in the tooth now. I think there are less than 50 on active duty in Canada. Rusty?
Pilot's supposed to be fine. Ejected safely.
I beleive the CF-18 is American made, but I could be wrong. I do know that our pilots go to the States for the Top Gun Competition and we have won in recent years, flying the CF-18.
As grimster has pointed out yes they are American, Boieng now owns them as they wanted to get into the fighter jet market.
The only "Top Gun Competiton" we participate in is the Willaim Tell Competition in Florida, and yes we won one a couple of years ago, but the Americans have shelved a lot of the extra shiny stuff do to the little dustup in Iraq/Afghanistan.
It is no secret that the CF-18 is long in the tooth, but what are we to do? if we replace them it is going to pretty much deplete any funds that we do have kicking aorun in the government coffers. We just went through a complete Avionics upgrade and China Lake in California, at one time we could not communicate with the other NATO countries while in operations, which could have been quite interesting seeing as they depend on a system called "IFF" Identify Friend or Foe. Whenever a jet (any Military aircraft) is in theater they have to emit a coded tone, if the opposing aircraft could not identify the other aircraft as a friendly then they would engage the aircraft.
As for the manitenence of the aircraft all I will say is that there is some huge difference between some of the maintenence practices of the two bases bagotville, and Cold Lake, I really cannot go into detail, but suffice it to say we do it better then they do, I am not just being biased here, I am being truthful. There base has gone through some huge losses in manpower as Bombardier came in and hired the majority of their skilled maintainers.
I have seen first hand some of the stuff that has come out of Bagotville and it just leaves me shaking my head.
Oh well, we are starting to go through the same phase here in Cold Lake as a lot of our skill is starting to walk out the door, I am seriously considering my options as well as after 20 some odd years I am tired of being passed over for promotions and such, which is another story altogether..........
Word has it that the pilot made a rookie mistake.
Okay, I just had the cover to the ceiling light fall off and shatter on the desk beside me a few minutes ago. It was about six inches away from hitting me right on the head.
This happened right after I posted I'd take a Brodeur for Luongo trade at HF.

This past weekend I was over on the North Island(Campbell River-Port McNeil-Sointala). The plan was to help my mother look for retirement property, and also enjoy the sights
Well, its beautiful up there..perhaps some of Canada's best scenery. So serene, wild, and unspoilt by the hand of man.
We looked at houses on an island called Malcolm Island, a 30 min. ferry ride from Port McNeil. They have a place there called Sointula..a former Finnish settlement/utopia. These days the place is basically the equivalent to a Gulf Island community
Anyway, checked out 5 properties. J'asus mary and joseph, what dumps. They got worse from the first one. Roofs needed to be totally redone..water in basements..walls needed to be fixed, furnaces that wouldn't pass inspection, oil tank in the house. And, these houses weren't cheap..$150,000 and up.
In one house, atleast $100,000 work to be done. That dude from Holmes on Homes would have a field day, and most likely say to just total the house, and rebuild
The town was sort of weird. But I guess thats what happens. Its basically in the middle of nowhere
Port McNeil is quaint, and nice..but not the sort of place you'd want to live. Campbell River is perfect..however has a bad smell from the pulp mill..sort of a sweet smell :conspire:
So, that was it. Probably heading back again, as my mother wants to check out Port Hardy..which I have heard is very nice.
Timmy, Timmy, Timmy. Bring your mom up to the Okanagan Shuswap, it's the place to retire in BC. I can even rent my parents' house to you for a few days so you can look around. But hurry, my parents get back from the RV trip by the middle of September.
Seriously though, your mom would love the weather, scenery and atmosphere of Salmon Arm or any of the other towns or cities in the local area. Except Enderby, don't take her there. Don't want to ask why, it's the shame we must bear to live in this great area.

Yeah I've been up there. Watch out for them suspicious town-folk. They used to be almost like normal people. They went to the islands in the 70's for the Arlo Guthrie cover bands and the cheap pot... but it went straight downhill from there.

Timmy,Timmy, let me echo my fine friend from Salmon Arm. The Okanagan Shuswap is were your mom wants to be. The Island is populated with Red Necks, ex hippies and expatriot Brits. It is rainy, hard to get to and stuck in a 70's time warp. My god man, Burnsie likes it there, that should tell all you need to know.
Besides you know you want to be here and get your degree ;)

Aye, and it stinks..really does. You can handle it for a weekend..but everyday? My mother has asthma..so its best to avoid such places. Fresh air is key.
Prince George has the same thing. In Northern BC its notorious for the smog/smell from the mill..

Clearly, being King of my very own country doesn't see the same benefits that others enjoy...
LUDZIDZINI ROYAL VILLAGE, Swaziland (Reuters) -- More than 50,000 bare-breasted virgins vied to become the king of Swaziland's 13th wife...
King Mswati III, sub-Saharan Africa's last absolute monarch, is due to attend the annual Reed Dance ceremony, which he has used since 1999 to pluck new brides from thousands of dancing girls dressed in little more than beads and traditional skirts.
50,000.... how many do you really think were virgins (http://edition.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/africa/08/29/swazi.dance.reut/index.html)?

(AP)- A pair of ruby slippers worn by Judy Garland in "The Wizard of Oz" and insured for $1 million is missing from a Grand Rapids museum.
Police Chief Leigh Serfling said the slippers were stolen late Saturday or early Sunday. Someone entered the museum through a window and broke into the small display case holding the slippers....

Is it drywall or plaster?

Told me he had been in hospital since Wednesday
Basically he was mugged, and beaten outside his house/inn
Two guys beat him with a wooden chair, and wooden road barricades
He was lucky to escape. Received broken bones in his face, arm/hand, blood in his eye, and blood inside/on his brain.
They caught the two guys responsible. Glad to hear he is alright, but also quite shocked to hear it happened.
Especially in St.John's, of all places. Plus, this guy isn't a tough guy..he is in his late 40's..and harmless

It's a good thing your fist didn't hit where a stud is behind the drywall...THAT hurts (or so I'm told). *wink*
Does anyone know what I'd need to fix it, and how to go about doing that?
There are two methods, TT - the proper method and the quick patch method
Tools required:
- straightedge (level, carpenters square or a steel ruler will work)
- utility knife
- screwdriver or hammer
- 3" putty knife
- couple of sheets of 120 grit sand paper
Proper - cut out the drywall from stud to stud (16" on center) but only cut the verticle 1/2 way on the studs so you have something to nail/screw to. The piece only has to be a couple of inches wider than the hole. Cut a piece of Gyproc to fit the new squared off hole and secure it to the studs either with 1-1/2" ring nails or drywall screws.
Apply some drywall mud around the joints with your putty knife (thin, but not too thin) and apply your drywall tape. Apply more mud over top and at least 6" around the entire area to allow feathering out. Do (2) thin coats and allow drying time between each coat. Too thick and you end up sanding too much. Don't sand unless it is dry. If you can indent with your thumbnail it isn't dry.
Quick - clean the hole with your utility knife removing loose gyproc paper and chalk. Place plastic hole repair mesh over hole. Cover with drywall mud (remember, thin coats and allow drying time in between). Sand to finish.
After hole has been repaired (either method) paint entire wall.
Oh...one more option...the quickest and easiest - hang picture over hole and don't say a word to anyone!

The cat that turned pink
By Richard Savill
(Filed: 06/09/2005)
A couple are mystified by how their white cat turned pink during a morning stroll.
Brumas the cat
Brumas ?went out snow white and came back Barbie pink?
Philip and Joan Worth have been told by vets that Brumas, named after the first polar bear born at London Zoo, is not toxic. But no explanation can be found for the Barbie-pink rinse he acquired after walking near his home in Bratton Clovelly, Devon.
His owners Philip Worth, 66, a retired county council officer, and his wife, Joan, took the cat to their vet who said he was in good health.
Mr Worth said: "He went out snow white and came back Barbie pink.
"We went to the vet, but they couldn't find any reason for it, although they decided it wasn't toxic, which was what I was worried about."
Mr Worth said paint was not believed to be the cause as Brumas' fur was not matted. "It occurred to me that it could have been wet dye from a washing line or even sheep dye, but there is no way he could have got the same colour so evenly all over."
The couple, who adopted Brumas after he was found on Dartmoor and taken in by the Cats Protection League, have five other cats but none of them has been affected in the same way.
Mrs Worth, a retired shop assistant, added: "We're quite happy to live with him as a pink cat. We love him whatever his colour is."

I've seen enough of Bill O'reilly to understand he is nothing more than a little Hitler. He's an extreme egomaniac, who can't bear to have someone make a point which contradicts and often dispells what he just said. The man is an idiot, if you make a good point he either yells over top of you or turns your mike down.
Did anybody see the interview where he berated a young man almost to tears. The man's father had died in 9/11 and he was against the war on Iraq, not on terrorism, but Iraq. O'reilly, who must be under the impression it was Iraqi civilians, not mainly Saudi's, who attacked the twin towers, yelled and cursed and called the man names before shutting off his mike. Is this the behaviour we have come to accept from our television news anchors?
The man is a freakshow which probably explains his numbers because everybody loves a good freakshow. But the freakshow is getting old, an Bill is losing credibility, the sooner he's gone the better.
Did anybody see the interview where he berated a young man almost to tears.
I did. And luckily someone finally handed young Al Franken a kleenex. :]
O'REILLY: We're supposed to be on here for 15 minutes, this idiot goes 35. Okay? All he's got in six-and-a-half years is that I misspoke, that I labeled a Polk Award a Peabody. He writes it in his book, he tries to make me out to be a liar --
FRANKEN: Oh no, no, no, no, no, no, no...
O'REILLY: HEY, SHUT UP!
FRANKEN: (stunned) I won't shut up!
O'REILLY: You HAD your THIRTY-FIVE minutes! SHUT UP!

I used to watch it. A few years back the Fox station we got through our cable package bagan carrying a bit of Fox News incluing the O'Reilly Factor. I can understand why you like it, it's entertaining, edgy, and I'll even admit the people on Fox News have more balls than the rest of the news networks combined. However, it doesn't change the fact that they all work for a higher up who tells them exactly how to spin the news in favour of the right wing. That isn't just some rumour floating around online, it's documented, it's known, there is no denying it. You can watch it and enjoy it if you like, but it's nothing more than Republican propaganda.

I don't believe that left wing, liberal bias, mainstream media crap. The Columbia School of Journalism did a study during the 2000 election of 1,149 stories and you know what they found? 56% of the stories about Gore had a negative tone compared to 49% about Bush. Only 13% of Gore's were postive compared to Bush's 24%. Now, I'm no 'Karl Rove' when it comes propaganda, but it seems to me if all these "Liberal" media outlets were in fact Liberal, they would have done their best to make Bush look bad and Gore look good. Not the other way around.

As far as I'm concerned CNN and Fox are both trash. Neither one of them supplies you with the truth and simply fill you with a smoked screened stories. Fox by far takes the cake for misleading the public. 2 years ago the good American court system gave FOX news the right to lie. "In February 2003, a Florida Court of Appeals unanimously agreed with an assertion by FOX News that there is no rule against distorting or falsifying the news in the United States." The sad part about this is that bovine growth hormone which the story was about is still being used in the US even though it's been banned in every other civilized world because it's proven to cause cancer.
I truly fail to understand how anybody can interpret CNN or MSNBC news with being left winged because neither one of them report the news as it is. As far as Fox being unbiased?... What can I say? They've gone to court to legally lie, their personalities are nothing but hypocrites and have almost fascist views on society and they also fail to report the news as it really is.

BEIJING (Reuters) - In a bid to spruce up the city's image, authorities in China's Nanjing are banning taxi drivers who are bald, wear their hair too long, have moustaches or wear too much make-up, media said Tuesday.
The new rules are part of a 10-point plan to smarten up Nanjing, capital of eastern Jiangsu province, ahead of October's 10th National Games which will draw viewers from across the country, the Chinese news Web site www.sina.com.cn said Tuesday, citing the Nanjing Morning Post.
"Male taxi drivers cannot have long hair or strange hairstyles, cannot be bald and cannot grow moustaches or goatees," the report said.
"Women drivers must not use too much make-up and should wear appropriate clothes."
The report did not mention penalties for drivers that break the rules, but did say that cabbies who refused to pick up passengers could be kept off the streets for up to 15 days.
The strict code comes at a time when middle-class Chinese are embracing all kinds of fashion thanks to two decades of market reforms that have rendered the Mao suit a relic of the past.
about time they swept those freaks under the rug.

"In February 2003, a Florida Court of Appeals unanimously agreed with an assertion by FOX News that there is no rule against distorting or falsifying the news in the United States." The sad part about this is that bovine growth hormone which the story was about is still being used in the US even though it's been banned in every other civilized world because it's proven to cause cancer.I had never heard about that until you brought it up. I am surprised, but I wouldn't be nearly as surprised if every other network has done the same thing.
I truly fail to understand how anybody can interpret CNN or MSNBC news with being left winged because neither one of them report the news as it is.CNN and MSNBC, along with the New York Times and Boston Globe are left wing media outlets. They're more left than FOX News is right. Just take a look at the Republican slamming lately.
As far as Fox being unbiased?... What can I say? They've gone to court to legally lie, their personalities are nothing but hypocrites and have almost fascist views on society and they also fail to report the news as it really is.Hypocrites? I don't know where you get that. If you have a hate-on for Bill O'Reilly for whatever reason, that's fine, but the rest of the FOX News team isn't at all like him. The best anchor in the business, Shepard Smith, doesn't offer any commentary on any subject. He's there to report the news on Studio B and The FOX Report.
Get off your freaking low FOX and face reality! You know nothing except what that tabloid channel tells you. Have you even researched one of their stories? They are no more reliable than the tabloids you see in grocery store check outs. Do yourself a favour and read something else.

Max personally asked me to reply to his post. By the way, I didn't ask for this "FOX News good vs. FOX News bad" debate, I was jumped on by about six Liberals since I have a FOX News desktop image and that I defended the network when I was challenged.

I wouldn't call them liberals. This word is thrown around way too much, as is conservative. People on the left don't have to be liberals.

I've never understood why some left leaning people believe being seen as liberal (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=liberal) is a bad thing.
a. Not limited to or by established, traditional, orthodox, or authoritarian attitudes, views, or dogmas; free from bigotry.
b. Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded.
Sounds good to me....

Duhh you mean to tells me a Liberal ain't " a long-haired hippie-type pinko f*g. He's even got a commie flag, tacked up on the wall of his garage " (Charlie Daniels Band) Well I'll be dunked in whiskey barrel, an' set afire! :burning:
Liberal/ Conservative Right/Left Republican/Democrat The party's are becoming so polarised the issues cease to matter.
I had a teacher spend 10 minutes trying to convince me to try out as a cheerleader.
Her argument was that I'd get to look up skirts and touch ***es of hot girls all day. I don't think I've ever seen a teacher try so hard to convince me to do anything... never mind that :rollover: :rollover2
You could play dodgeball too PDO ;)

If you chose to believe others are left and bias but fox only reports the news then I guess that?s your prerogative. As far as I?m concerned FOX is the worst of them all with their one sided reporting. I remember last year FOX had a big special defending Bush on employment and how in October last year the employment growth was the largest ever and the republican government and their leader should be commended. I decided out of curiosity to do some research on this growth and found articles from all the American media agencies had similar articles but less flashy and less praise to the government. Then I read an article by BBC claiming the same employment growth but they pointed out something that all analysts were saying and most of us should have thought of. At that time hurricane season had just finished and the US had suffered its worst destruction in decades. The boom in employment was the result in reconstruction across Florida. Now is that truthful and full reporting by fox or is that one-sided entertainment provided by fox to promote its agenda?
What?s disappointing about the failure in communicating my thoughts on the media and especially fox is that the media if reported truthfully can make our society that much better. If CNN wasn?t slamming Bush and all were defending him like Fox then people in charge would get away with all. I haven?t slammed Bush once on this because if his supporters on this site can?t see the truth right in front of them then they don?t want to hear it. Canada among 10 or 15 other countries offered to send immediate help the day after the hurricane but Bush and his administration did not respond and said they will handle it. Ten days later help was requested. Bush was on Holidays and only decided to fly over 5 days after the hurricane struck. I could go on but people who believe what fox has to say (oh no not right winged) will somehow mange to blame other like the Governor who only declaired a state of emergency and SOS'd the world right after the storm.
As far as the Fox going to court to legally lie well here?s the story. No it?s not a conspiracy against Fox and no it hasn?t happened to other agencies it happened with Fox. These twisted people wanted their investigative reporters to lie to Americans on something that affects the health of every America just because corporate fox could lose money in result.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In February 2003, a Florida Court of Appeals unanimously agreed with an assertion by FOX News that there is no rule against distorting or falsifying the news in the United States.
Back in December of 1996, Jane Akre and her husband, Steve Wilson, were hired by FOX as a part of the Fox ?Investigators? team at WTVT in Tampa Bay, Florida. In 1997 the team began work on a story about bovine growth hormone (BGH), a controversial substance manufactured by Monsanto Corporation. The couple produced a four-part series revealing that there were many health risks related to BGH and that Florida supermarket chains did little to avoid selling milk from cows treated with the hormone, despite assuring customers otherwise.
According to Akre and Wilson, the station was initially very excited about the series. But within a week, Fox executives and their attorneys wanted the reporters to use statements from Monsanto representatives that the reporters knew were false and to make other revisions to the story that were in direct conflict with the facts. Fox editors then tried to force Akre and Wilson to continue to produce the distorted story. When they refused and threatened to report Fox's actions to the FCC, they were both fired.(Project Censored #12 1997)
Akre and Wilson sued the Fox station and on August 18, 2000, a Florida jury unanimously decided that Akre was wrongfully fired by Fox Television when she refused to broadcast (in the jury's words) ?a false, distorted or slanted story? about the widespread use of BGH in dairy cows. They further maintained that she deserved protection under Florida's whistle blower law. Akre was awarded a $425,000 settlement. Inexplicably, however, the court decided that Steve Wilson, her partner in the case, was ruled not wronged by the same actions taken by FOX.
FOX appealed the case, and on February 14, 2003 the Florida Second District Court of Appeals unanimously overturned the settlement awarded to Akre. The Court held that Akre?s threat to report the station?s actions to the FCC did not deserve protection under Florida?s whistle blower statute, because Florida?s whistle blower law states that an employer must violate an adopted ?law, rule, or regulation." In a stunningly narrow interpretation of FCC rules, the Florida Appeals court claimed that the FCC policy against falsification of the news does not rise to the level of a "law, rule, or regulation," it was simply a "policy." Therefore, it is up to the station whether or not it wants to report honestly.
During their appeal, FOX asserted that there are no written rules against distorting news in the media. They argued that, under the First Amendment, broadcasters have the right to lie or deliberately distort news reports on public airwaves. Fox attorneys did not dispute Akre?s claim that they pressured her to broadcast a false story, they simply maintained that it was their right to do so. After the appeal verdict WTVT general manager Bob Linger commented, ?It?s vindication for WTVT, and we?re very pleased? It?s the case we?ve been making for two years. She never had a legal claim.?
UPDATE BY LIANE CASTEN: If we needed any more proof that we now live in an upside down world, the saga of Jane Akre, along with her husband, Steve Wilson, could not be more compelling.
Akre and Wilson won the first legal round. Akre was awarded $425,000 in a jury trial with well-crafted arguments for their wrongful termination as whistleblowers. And in the process, they also won the prestigious ?Goldman Environmental? prize for their outstanding efforts. However, FOX turned around and appealed the verdict. This time, FOX won; the original verdict was overturned in the Appellate Court of Florida?s Second District. The court implied there was no restriction against distorting the truth. Technically, there was no violation of the news distortion because the FCC?s policy of news distortion does not have the weight of the law. Thus, said the court, Akre-Wilson never qualified as whistleblowers.
What is more appalling are the five major media outlets that filed briefs of Amici Curiae- or friend of FOX ? to support FOX?s position: Belo Corporation, Cox Television, Inc., Gannett Co., Inc., Media General Operations, Inc., and Post-Newsweek Stations, Inc. These are major media players! Their statement, ?The station argued that it simply wanted to ensure that a news story about a scientific controversy regarding a commercial product was present with fairness and balance, and to ensure that it had a sound defense to any potential defamation claim.?
?Fairness and balance?? Monsanto hardly demonstrated ?fairness and balance? when it threatened a lawsuit and demanded the elimination of important, verifiable information!
The Amici position was ?If upheld by this court, the decision would convert personnel actions arising from disagreements over editorial policy into litigation battles in which state courts would interpret and apply federal policies that raise significant and delicate constitutional and statutory issues.? After all, Amici argued, 40 states now have Whistleblower laws, imagine what would happen if employees in those 40 states followed the same course of action?
The position implies that First Amendment rights belong to the employers ? in this case the five power media groups. And when convenient, the First Amendment becomes a broad shield to hide behind. Let?s not forget, however; the airwaves belong to the people. Is there no public interest left?while these media giants make their private fortunes using the public airwaves? Can corporations have the power to influence the media reporting, even at the expense of the truth? Apparently so.
In addition, the five ?friends? referred to FCC policies. The five admit they are ?vitally interested in the outcome of this appeal, which will determine the extent to which state whistleblower laws may incorporate federal policies that touch on sensitive questions of editorial judgment.?
Anyone concerned with media must hear the alarm bells. The Bush FCC, under Michael Powell?s leadership, has shown repeatedly that greater media consolidation is encouraged, that liars like Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter are perfectly acceptable, that to refer to the FCC interpretation of ?editorial judgment? is to potentially throw out any pretense at editorial accuracy if the ?accuracy? harms a large corporation and its bottom line. This is our ?Brave New Media?, the corporate media that protects its friends and now lies, unchallenged if need be.
The next assault: the Fox station then filed a series of motions in a Tampa Circuit Court seeking more than $1.7 million in trial fees and costs from both Akre and Wilson. The motions were filed on March 30 and April 16 by Fox attorney, William McDaniels?who bills his client at $525 to $550 an hour. The costs are to cover legal fees and trial costs incurred by FOX in defending itself at the first trial. The issue may be heard by the original trial judge, Ralph Steinberg?a logical step in the whole process. However, Judge Steinberg must come out of retirement if he is to hear this, so the hearing, set for June 1, may go to a new judge, Judge Maye.
Akre and her husband feel the stress. ?There is no justification for the five stations not to support us,? she said. ?Attaching legal fees to whistleblowers is unprecedented, absurd. The ?business? of broadcasting trumps it all. These news organizations must ensure they are worthy of the public trust while they use OUR airwaves, free of charge. Public trust is alarmingly absent here.?
Indeed. This is what our corporate media, led by such as Rupert Murdoch, have come to. How low we have fallen.

NEW YORK - A 19-year-old PETA staffer has legally changed his name to KentuckyFriedCruelty.com.
Chris Garnett, youth outreach coordinator for the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, said he changed his name in support of the group's anti-KFC campaign.
"People don't believe me at first when I tell them my name, but it never fails to spark a discussion," Garnett, er, KentuckyFriedCruelty.com, said in a statement. "Many vow to boycott KFC after I explain the company's indifference to cruelty to animals."
Norfolk, Va.-based PETA's complaints against KFC stem from video footage shot last year recording alleged mistreatment of birds at a Pilgrim's Pride Corp. plant in Moorefield, W.Va. The plant is a KFC supplier.
Yum! Brands, the parent company of KFC, has disputed the claims of mistreatment. In June, a grand jury refused to indict former workers at the West Virginia chicken plant.
"Stacked" star Pamela Anderson, who has narrated a PETA video showing the alleged abuse, supports Garnett's name change.
"I'm sure Chris can't wait till KFC stops torturing chickens so he can change his name back," the actress said in a statement, adding that the chicken abuse "is awful and has to stop."
