From what I could figure out, the Southern Professional Hockey League is starting its second season.

Yeah, this is the SPHL's 2nd year. They've added a couple of teams this year. I hope they keep growing. Its a nice level of play, not quite the ECHL but it is exciting and hey, it's hockey! Columbus played in the CHL 02-03 season, the ECHL 03-04 season, SPHL 04-05 season. After their season in the ECHL, the owners sold out and moved leaving the Snakes to find a league. It's great watching the guys. We had several young Canadian guys coming out of college, and they were pretty damn decent. Our coach, Jerome Beeshard, played in Columbus for years has coached two. He put together a nice team. The guys all seemed to click. Hey, they won the Cup! Can't wait to get started again.

Southern Charm, how is the attendance at Cottonmouth games. Through one of my clients I became familiar with many of the various minor leagues and teams in the southern U.S. and I was a bit surprised at the numbers some of them drew.

I mean like 4-5 thousand per game in places you'd never expect like Mississippi, Alabama, Oklahoma... I don't remember the exact teams. But I was impressed that at least some of these teams draw real crowds in very untraditional hockey areas.

PS - I saw something on the SPHL home page about the Macon Trax.

Is the Macon Whoopee still around? I think they played in the CHL... :)
