So who is it? Every team has had an enforcer/policeman/fighter/goon. Call them what you will. I loved Gino Odjick when he wore a Canuck uniform. Tiger Williams was a fan favourite where ever he played.

Truth be told the toughest guy I have ever seen would have to be Stevie Yzerman, leading the Wings on one leg in 2003.

My favourite? Gary Roberts. Roberts with those two badly hurt shoulders going out and dominating the Senators in the playoffs was great to see. Stevie Yzerman is another.

As for actual fighters I've always liked Darren Langdon, for obvious reasons, though he's been a total goon here at home. I like Sean Avery too because he can piss off any canuck fan.

I always admired Tony Twist, Probert, Terry O'Reilly (back in the OLD days :)), and Oliwa.

Truth is there's a lot I admire.... just can't think of them all right now.

Also ADAM GRAVES although his main role was not to fight... he did plenty of it.

Favorite Fighters: Oliwa, Downey, McKenzie (former Devil), Stock.

Favorite Agitators: Cooke, Avery, Barnaby (always amusing).

Toughest: Yzerman, Stevens, McKay, Primeau (as much as I hate to say it), Tkachuk.

Growing up a Leaf fan in the early 90s, there was only one guy who fell into that category and his name is Wendel Clark. A player who could not only fight with some of the best, but also knew how to put it into the net. He was a great player to have on the ice and an example would be in the '93 conference finals when McSorely took a run at Gilmour's knee, Clark did what unfortunately isn't done anymore in the NHL because of the idiot insitgator rule and took care of business by dropping the gloves right away.

As for right now, my favorite tough guy would have to Jarome Iginla. He carried the Flames forward unit last season and had some classic playoff bouts with Ohland, Hatcher and Lecavalier. He is a true power forward and one of the best in the game today.

Favourite Fighter: Laraque
Toughest Player: Yzerman

I love both of those players.. Laraque is easily one of the best heavy weights in the league.. it's sad that only kids trying to make a name for themselves are willing to drop them with him these days.

As for Yzerman.. that's been well stated.

A name I'll add, just for fun.. Matt Greene carried his team through NCAA Frozen Four with a torn tricept. If anyone's seen him play, you'd understand.. but seeing a guy throw people around and then finding that out about him is absolutely stunning!

Fighter: Darren Langdon. Brookbank seems to have some promise, but not even on the same level of reliability.

Toughest: Mike Peca

Ditto that.

Yzerman is surprisingly tough for an old fart.

Georges Laraque. He is tough and isn't dirty or cheap. If the other guy is hurting he will not fight him....he fights and plays with honour.

True, Laraque is a class act. It's refreshing to see fighters who a sense of honor about what they do.

Someone got tangled up with Chris Simon who was in way over his head (I think it was LaPointe in Boston). Simon went very easy on him realizing the mismatch. I thought that was admirable.

(then the Rags went and traded him  )

Anyone remember Dennis Vial?

His cycle was Miss 30 Games / Come Back get in fight - break thumb / Miss 30 Games....

I always liked Wendel Clark. A tough power forward who was a bright spot on a Leaf team for many years.

Wendel was good in his first stint with the Leafs, but not the same after all of those injuries.

Gary Roberts would have to be my favourite "tough guy", hes gone through so much in his career and always comes back strong.

Best Enforcer Inthe League Now: George Laraque, Not only is he about the toughest guy in the league, he dominates low on the boards.

Best Enforcer I've seen: I'm trying to think of someone better than Domi during my time and I can't. A little guy with a big attitude, who laughs while you hit him, them he smokes you with a few haymakers. He beat Probert who towered over him. Laraque and Brashear might win now, but in his prime, Pound for pound It's Domi.

Best tough guy/ Power Forward I've seen Clark, Neely, Shanahan, Roberts, Iginla, Bertuzzi or Tkachuk, it's splitting hairs. But the one guy who stands out who could be the smallest power forward ever is Theo Fleury. He played like he was 6' 3" instead of 5' 7", he would fight , he could hit and he put up numbers.
Seriously, after the last playoffs I would have to say Iginla gets the nod. :thumb:

George Laraque was the champ when he did fight, now he thinks he can be a 20 goal man!?! Whats with that?

Anyone remember those beauty tilts between Craig Cox (VAN) and Probert?

...I miss the days of the no instegator rule! :box:
