OILERS AND HORCOFF AGREE TO ONE-YEAR DEAL
The Edmonton Oilers and centre Shawn Horcoff have agreed to a one-year contract.
With the deal, the Oilers and the 6?1?, 204 pound forward from Castlegar, British Columbia have avoided arbitration, which was scheduled for Thursday, August 25th.
The Oilers? third choice in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, Horcoff will be entering his fifth season with Edmonton in 2005-06. He played in Europe during the 2004-05 season with Mora IK of the Swedish Elitserien, leading his team in scoring and tying for third place in the league scoring race with 19-27-46 in 50 games. His 19 goals were the fifth highest total in the Elitserien and he was sixth in penalty minutes with 117.
In 2003-04 with the Oilers, he established single-season career highs for games, goals, assists, points and penalty minutes as he scored 15-25-40 with 73 PIM in 80 games. He ranked fourth on the Oilers scoring list, sixth in goals and fourth in assists.
Named the Oilers? Outstanding Defensive Forward, Horcoff was even in plus/minus and finished second in shorthanded scoring with two goals and an assist for three points.
Following the completion of his fourth NHL season, Horcoff earned his second consecutive gold medal with Team Canada at the 2004 IIHF World Championship in Prague, Czech Republic. He tied for 10th in tournament scoring with 3-4-7 in 9 games and was +4 with 8 PIM.
Through his first four seasons with the Oilers, Horcoff has scored 44-67-111 with 156 PIM in 268 career games and has added 3-1-4 in 11 post-season outings.
