The Edmonton Oilers have signed right wing Ales Hemsky to a one-year contract and defenceman Matt Greene to a two-year deal.

The 6?0?, 192 pound Hemsky returns for his third season with the Oilers after enjoying a productive season with HC Moeller Pardubice of the Czech Repbulic Extraleague in 2004-05. The 22-year-old forward scored 13-18-31 with 28 penalty minutes in 47 games to finish as the fifth leading scorer on Pardubice during the regular season. Hemsky?s offensive success continued in the post-season as he helped Pardubice win the Extraleague championship by scoring a playoff leading 4-10-14 in 16 games and was named playoff MVP.

Hemsky, who has scored 18-46-64 in 130 games with the Oilers during his first two NHL seasons, was also a member of the Czech Republic?s world championship team. He scored 2-0-2 in seven games to help the Czech?s claim the world title in Vienna.

?Ales had a strong season and an outstanding playoff with Pardubice, that culminated in a championship,? said Oilers Assistant General Manager Scott Howson. ?We believe he is ready to continue his progress and play a significant role on our hockey club this year.?

Greene, a 6?3?, 223 pound, 22-year-old from Grand Ledge, Michigan, turns pro with the Oilers after an outstanding three-year collegiate career with the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux.

A second round draft choice of the Oilers in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Greene scored 2-8-10 with 126 penalty minutes and was 11 in 43 games during the 2004-05 season as the Fighting Sioux?s team captain led North Dakota to the NCAA Frozen Four championship game. His 126 penalty minutes were the most by any player in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) and were the third highest total of any player in the NCAA.

?Matt is one of our top prospects and we are pleased he has decided to forego his senior year at North Dakota and turn pro at this time,? said Howson. We look forward to watching Matt compete for a spot on the Oilers at training camp.?

Greene scored 3-28-31 with 347 PIM in 122 career games with North Dakota from 2002-03 to 2004-05.

Hemsky signed for 900k, 1 year deal.
