View Full Version : Havlat Signs 1-Year Deal
One year at 2.6M as reported by RDS.ca. TSN should have their report up soon. Details to follow so that's really all that needs to be said. Going into negotiations, I said he was not going to get more than 2.5M. So I wasn't too far off because as we all knew Marty was going to milk us for as much as he could. 2.6M is a tad high, but I'm happy with the terms of the deal. I would've liked to lock him up for a bit longer though.

Considering Gagne got $2 million a year, I guess it follows that Havlat signs for more. Not sure about only for one year, but I guess it's better to have him signed and ready for the season than to let it drag out.
More on the Sens RFA front, from TSN. Apparently terms were not disclosed, contraty to reports from french affiliate RDS. Havlat's deal is indeed a one-year deal however, while Mike Fisher is here for three more.
Senators re-sign Havlat and Fisher
OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators today announced they have re-signed right-winger Martin Havlat and centre Mike Fisher.
Terms of the deals were not disclosed but Havlat contract is a one-year deal while Fisher's contract is for three years.
Havlat suited up for four different clubs in the 2004-05 season. He first skated for Team Czech Republic at the 2004 World Hockey Championship. The 24-year old led his Czech Republic team and was tied for third in World Cup tournament scoring with six points in five games as the Czechs were ousted in overtime by Team Canada in the tournament semifinal.
In 2003-04, Havlat recorded career highs in goals (31), assists (37) and points (68) through his 68 games. He finished first on the club with seven game-winning goals while finishing third overall in scoring. His regular season was also highlighted with 16 multi-point games, a hat trick on the road against the Pittsburgh Penguins and 30 power-play points.
Fisher played with EV Zug of the Swiss National League in 2004-05 , where he recorded nine goals and 18 assists for 27 points in 21 games. He later joined Team Canada for the 2005 world championships in Austria for his first national team experience. The Peterborough, Ont., native saw action in nine games in Austria, and collected one assist and four penalty minutes.
In 2003-04, Fisher was limited to 24 games with Ottawa due to a right elbow injury and subsequent surgery. He recorded four goals and six assists in the regular season and also recorded one goal - the overtime winner in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference quarter-final against Toronto.
In 248 career games with Ottawa, Fisher has recorded 48 goals and 52 assists for 100 points. He recorded career highs with 18 goals, 20 assists, 38 points and 74 games played during the 2002-03 season.
I was thinking Mucks might do this, get the others out of the way before dealing with Hossa. Although it looks like that case my be set for arbitration, there will be quite a bit of time to negotiate prior to the hearing. Mucks will be working him and his agent during that duration, rest assured.
Havlat without a contract next year, along with Chara and Redden. If Hossa signs a one-year deal, and who knows what he's eyeing as he says he's more than open to a lengthy contract if the terms are right, we'll be in for a summer full of difficult choices. We won't be able to hang on to them all if they all need new contracts so soon, best case scenario is we get 3 with either Redden/Havlat the odd man out.

And Marty will be a UFA after this year correct?
And Marty will be a UFA after this year correct?
No. He will be only 25 and have only 6 years of NHL experience (lockout counts towards his total).
However, if he successes in his switch to the LW, and I'm quite sure he will as he plays well there on the PP, Havlat has the chance to put up some scary numbers on a line with Spezza and one of Alfredsson/Hossa. He could get some good coin through arbitration. I expect he will at least be able to keep up his PPG figures of last season (so 82 points in a full season) and with better limemates and a more open game I wouldn't put it past Marty to get 90+ points. Infact, just watch him have an absoluitely huge year, reaching the 100 point plateau motivated by the possibility of more money.
Mach 9 will be playing for a huge contract so expect a huge season. That's a good thing until contract negotiations begin with this one.
EDIT
Offcial terms: Havlat gets 2.6M while Fisher's deal is $4.5 million for three years - $1.5 million per year. Both are fair deal, espcially if the talk of Fisher now getting a top-six role is true.

Players always seem to play their best when they're in the last year of their contract.. hmm..

Good to hear they inked these two? Both are good contracts but like Manu said I would of loved it if they signed Havlat for few more years. He?s obviously after the big coin? The good think about all theses potential free agents and RFA?s is we should see a very productive team next year. Especially from Hossa since he was dumb enough to compare himself to Iginla
