View Full Version : RUMOR: Luongo for Theodore and Ryder
Heard this on sportscenter this morning...
Thoughts?
This is a deal that really could make sense for both teams.. Florida needs some scoring, and Montreal could sacrifice a little bit to get the best goaltender on the planet. Theodore is not Luongo, but he's definetly not bad by any means.

As a Habs fan, I'd do this deal
Luongo is better than Theodore. Theo is great, and has done wonders for the Habs..but perhaps its time for a fresh start?
Ryder would be easily replaceable.

Good deal for both sides.
I think this is a completely realistic trade. Theodore isn't a huge downgrade over Luongo, plus they could use another young scorer to play with guys like Horton, Weiss, and Huselius up front. The Habs meanwhile would be getting somebody who could be the next Patrick Roy. I could see this happening.
No truth to Luongo-Theodore rumor
A rumor floating around the hockey world lately, which was even picked up by the Montreal Gazette, suggested the Florida Panthers were close to dealing goalie Roberto Luongo to the Canadiens for Jose Theodore.
According to the Miami Herald, though, nothing could be further from the truth.
"I can honestly say it's a flat no," Jack Birch, the Panthers' director of hockey operations, told the Herald. "That's a total fabrication."
The rumor also claimed the Panthers were also asking for 2003-04 Rookie of the Year finalist Michael Ryder.
"That makes for good radio banter," Birch said.
The Panthers, who made a qualifying offer to Luongo, are in negotiations to sign star goaltender to a long-term contract.
"We are in negotiations with him and have met with his agent and with Luongo," Birch said. "This will proceed, and we don't foresee any major road blocks."

I wouldn't do that even if I was Mike Keenan. Sure you get a proven goalie and a good forward, but Luongo is the thing of the future.
I am a Habs fan, and there is no way I do it!
True Luongo is better, but not enough to give up Ryder!
Of all things we don't need it's a goalie. Especially after passing on Brule for Price in the draft. This deal would only make sense if Montreal had picked Brule then they might be able to afford loosing Ryder, one of the only power forwards we have right now! :curse:

And I suppose that you are one to think that Domi can still fight!?!
1.25m for an over the hill 4th liner whos best days are loooooooong gone!
But don't worry I sure he'll make up for the the offence that will be missed when Allison and Lindros (aka the mush heads) are sitting in a press box!
In fact the Leafs should start making room in the stands right now for those 2 - cause it's just a matter of time!

Ryder can be replaced. he is not a power forward in my eyes
Montreal has a lot of depth, thats the reason I'd make this trade

Please stay on topic; there are a lot of other threads for Dumi bashing.

Hey, I'm the biggest Ryder fan out there, but he isn't a powerforward. He'll tell you that(really, he will). Ryder could put up 30 goals a season, or he might turn out to be a flash in the pan. I hope the latter turns out to be false because I love the guy. In the end though, Daniel Ryder is the guy to look out for.

I don't know what's more stupid, the fact that you think Ryder is a power forward, or the fact that your quote, "one of the only power forwards we have right now!" leads me to believe you think Montreal has multiple power forwards
btw, Andre Roy got 3 years at 1 million per before Domi signed. Domi is a better player than Roy and 1.25 million is not gonna make or break your team. Also, you're clearly out to left field if you think Allison is a mush head. He had whiplash, and he's recovered from. Laugh it up now though, because the Leafs will be looking down on your sh*tty Habs in the standings.
To stay on topic, I just don't see this trade happening. I think eventually Theodore will be dealt, but that'll be a few years down the line when Price is developed and ready to takeover as the starter.
