The team signed the unrestricted free agent centre to a one-year deal on Friday.

Allison, 30, made $20 million US playing just 26 games for the Los Angeles Kings, after the team acquired him from Boston in 2001.

While he led the Bruins twice in team scoring, the former first round pick of the Washington Capitals has been plagued by concussions and post-traumatic migraines since October of 2003.

In 486 career NHL games, Allison has tallied 137 goals and 425 points.

Only a one year deal? Hmm.

I wonder if he'll play more than 40 games.

Finally, something to be happy about.

Only a one year deal, but we still won't have too much committed in salary for the next offseason :)

Hopefully he stays injury free.. definately worth the risk IMO..

one year deal, may be a smart move given the injury history. Besides who knows what the cap looks like for 2006/07 and many of these long term deals being signed elswhwere could bite some of the "genius" gm's in the backside.

Allison is worth the risk I think. Besides, it's only a one year deal with a $1.5 million base salary, so they can always just not bring him back if he doesn't pan out. Sundin and Allison down the middle gives them two quality centers to work around.

1 year at 1.5 million is a reasonable risk... but his pay should most definitely be commensurate to the amount of games he plays. Allison is in no position to sign for guaranteed money... at least IMO.

He's worth the risk. Be safe sign him for one year see how he does. If he is healthy and returns to form (knock on wood) then you can go from there.
