The Chicago Blackhawks have signed unrestricted free agent winger Martin Lapointe. Lapointe, 31, agreed to a 3-year deal worth $7.2 million. Lapointe signed a montster deal with the Boston Bruins in 2001, but never lived up to lofty expectations, scoring 40 goals and 43 assists in 205 games.

In his career, Lapointe has 148 goals, 165 assists and 313 points in 757 games.

He played his first seven NHL seasons in Detroit, winning two Stanley Cups with the Red Wings.

Well he got more then he deserved IMO and I'm happy we didn't sign this guy for that much money. Good addition for Chicago though.

Ditto. He wasn't worth more than 1.5M max IMO. But there's no denying he would've been great at the rumoured price (not too much over the league minimum). It wasn't too unrealistic either as McCarty went to Calgary a short while before for 800k/per.

Eklund, who has been surprisingly accurate lately, has struck out on this one. Pierre McGuire too was confirming Lapointe to Ottawa this morning on the TEAM 1200.

The Hawks will have a lot of two way forwards.

Looks like they are finally going to play defense

does Martin Lapointe have pictures of somebody? He gets major money from the Bruins and now the Hawks and I am not sure why.
