I guess they finally got him. At least he is out of the west.
Beat me to it.
Why so cheap?
Secondly... GAgne is now on the block!
(Another call by Eklund.. like I said, he's informed now)
Damn, the Beasts of the East. They still need a goalie, and have 5 mil in cap space.

Holy c-c-c-c-
WOW, didn't see this coming!
Wow, Well I'm just glad that by the time the Rangers have a good team again, Forsberg will be in an old folks home
5 mil in cap space to sign Gagne and Esche.. not hapening, and he won't spend to the limit.
Gagne to Edmonton for Pouliot + First + ?

Thats a shock to say the least
Goodluck to the teams in the east :thumb:
(Another call by Eklund.. like I said, he's informed now)Yeah.
Now Eklund says that Roenick will be sent to the Kings.
Roenick to LA to make room for forsberg...this was confirmed by two sources who spoke to people at the Fyers I guess we can expect this to happen now?
33,618,600 tied up in 15 players, who is being traded?
33,618,600 tied up in 15 players, who is being traded?
Gagne to Edmonton (I love rhetoric :D)
Damn. I was really hoping he'd stay out of the East. I wasn't a fan of either of Philly's previous D moves, but this is huge.
Yeah.
Now Eklund says that Roenick will be sent to the Kings.
I guess we can expect this to happen now?Sure I guess, but Eklund was friggen wrong on Satan! That boy seems to have got a few reliable sources all of a sudden

That's it, I can't take it anymore, I'm gonna go out and buy a Flyers jersey I can't stand to see teams getting better all over the board and hearing nothing on the home front.

I'm an orphan too... this is the first time I can remember starting a Ranger season without one single player I had an emotional attachment to. Let's pick a new team together Mike, I'm liking Boston... (I can't go w/ Philly, sorry).
Actually Atlanta w/ Holik is the front-runner for my new adopted favorite team (that's the team you cheer for while your real favorite team hasn't seen the playoffs in a decade).

Anyone would take Forsberg over JR. Oh my word, Foppa returning to the team that actually drafted him!
I am just....It's like Christmas for Flyer fans.
The Flyers are becoming scary. Who knew that it would take a cap for Bobby's secret plans to work out. :conspire:

But still, DAMN! Team to beat in the east is the Flyers.

He is going to play with Gagne, Carter, Knuble or even Richards. Finally, Gagne will be a good scorer playing with someone of Forsberg's stature.
So.. why'd Forsberg want to play in Philly? He could've got much more coin in other places, and been on equally solid teams.
Simone Gagne's problem was never his linemates, but the role of which Ken Hitchcock asked him to play. He put up 60 points in 70 GP as a sophomore and who did he play with? And Philly had some nice centers last season (Roenick, Zhammnov).
Gagne is great defensively so Hitch just said stick to that when he could've been a very dangerous two-way player. A production increase is quite probable for Gagne thanks to the new rules alone, but Ken better start using the kid properly. He's a great coach, but his use of Gagne has been quite poor in my book.

Relax people, the Flyers have a good team on paper, but that still proves nothing. Forsberg is quite possibly the best player in the NHL when healthy and on his game. Neither one has been a guarantee the last few years. Hatcher and Rathje are big defensemen, but are both a bit on the slow end, Rathje doesn't use his size to his advantage, and Hatcher has been horrible since leaving the Stars. Assuming they trade JR to the Kings, they still aren't going to have a ton of cap space, not to mention they have to resign Gagne and/or Esche. The Flyers chances of winning the East are better than they were last week, but remember that people were also saying the Avs were going to destroy any team in their path when Kariya and Selanne signed there. Now we'll see if the Flyers can actually win the big one with a good roster...

Bravo M-Dizzle. That's what I was thinking. The Flyers are changing a lot. Big names in and big names out. Doesn't necessarily spell success. Forsberg is definitely a huge gain (provided he doesn't get hurt again). The new look of the D holds a lot of IF's. Philly is making the most noise... but that does not necesarily translate into the most improved. Time will tell..
Actually I'd like to say this again - we are 2 months and 2 days from opening night!!!

The Flyers are also capped up, and are completely screwed if someone big goes down. I can also guarantee that every coach in the East is now perfecting his 'stretch pass' drills for when training camp / practise starts up, Philly is the proud owner of the slowest blueline in the game.
Call me a homer but I still see the Bolts, Sens & Devils as the top teams to beat in the East.

Bolts -- maybe if Bulin re-signs
Sens -- if Hasek stays healthy
Devils -- not a top team. Elias isn't back until after Christmas. Other than that, what scoring do they have? No word on Niedermayer either
I'm not going to say we are going undefeated, we have improved our chances of winning. Every team has to face the possibilities of injury, not just us. We do look great on paper, we will see how it plays out.
Really, I'm actually surprised that Peter wanted to play for us, the Rangers offered him 6 million and he said no.

And Chara will be ready. As will Volchenkov if he opts for North America over Europe (and I'm fairly confident that he will). The East, in particular the Northeast and the Atlantic with Ottawa, Philly, and New Jersey just off the top of my head having arguably the 3 toughest backlines in hockey (maybe not in that order) is probably the worst destination for any injury prone player. That's why I'm hoping the Leafs sign Lindros. Won't take long for him to be on the IR. Allison is a worthy gamble at the rumoured price. Forsberg seems to be made of glass but unlike some other players skates with his head up, so we shall see with him. And he's on a whole nother level than the other two anyway.

Nothing is for sure. This is why I can't wait to watch them, we don't know what we're going to get. They could get 60 wins, but they may go back as an average/sub-average team.

Last time I checked, they aren't the only two on defense:
Hatcher--Pitkanen
Johnsson-- Desjardins
Rathje--Seidenberg

I'm not saying anything about injuries, no reason to. All I am saying is that we have some decent guys down with the Phantoms. Also have faith that Clarke if he needs to, can get us someone if something happen. No, we probably couldn't trade our two guys but we have a ton of attractive prospects that could fetch a decent player. That's all I am saying.
OK here goes 2 demerit points What the ****!!!!!!!! No freaking way!!!!!!!!!!!

True, but it isn't impossible. Here's what has to happen.
Your goaltending is sub-par. This is quite possible.
Carter and Richards have to be busts.
Hatcher and Rathje are exploited in the new game, or get injured.
Forsberg gets injured, yet again. Another real possibility.

That's an interesting list, for a few reasons.
First, it just strikes me as odd that Rathje and Hatcher are the top two highest paid guys on the team besides Forsberg. Yeah I know existing contracts got rolled back so there's more to it than meets the eye... but I really think Clarke is going to regret signing them to 4 and 5 years respectively.
The other thing that screams out of that list, and seems to be getting lost in the Forsberg excitement, is that 4 of the 5 top scorers from last year are gone. (Recchi, Amonte, Roenick, LeClair). That's a lot of offense missing from one season to the next. And as good as Forsberg his, he can't make up for 4 of their top 5 scorers... I'm wondering who's going to pick up this offensive slack along with Forsberg... Knuble? Not unless you have Joe Thornton and Glen Murray to skate with him.
Obviously you have a chance to take Forsberg you do it. But it hurts that they had to give away Roenick to fit him in. Actually they had to throw in a draft pick along with Roenick for basically nothing in return.
If I'm a Flyer fan, I like signing Forsberg... what I don't like is tying up 7 million per for the next 4-5 years in Hatcher/Rathje.... that's a lot of cap room that IMHO would have been better spent on offense.
swflyers25
8-04-05, 4:19 PM
Knuble? Not unless you have Joe Thornton and Glen Murray to skate with him.
Did alright without Joe overseas. Knuble will probably be paired with Handzus and Handzus made John Leclair a 20+ goal scorer last year.
Our lines will look something like this:
Gagne-Forsberg-Carter
Knuble-Handzus-Radivojevic/Richards
Kapanen-Primeau-Richards/Radio
Brashear-Sharp-Stevenson
Sim
Hatcher-Pitkanen
KJ-Rathje
Seidenberg-Desjardins
Therien
what I don't like is tying up 7 million per for the next 4-5 years in Hatcher/Rathje.... that's a lot of cap room that IMHO would have been better spent on offense.
Well, I think the Flyers think that they have a good group right now and a good group of prospects. Also, by next off season, Brashear and Desjardins will be off the books as well. That's 4 mil we can use to sign a decent 2nd-3rd liner.

I just said that is what has to happen for the Flyers to be a sub-par team. I never said any of it was going to happen.
So it's okay to have a crystal ball and say that Carter/Richards will be great, but not okay to have one and say they won't? I'm pretty sold on both being good players in the NHL (Carter a first line tweener, Richards a second line tweener).. but please stop the hypocracy.
