The Detroit Red Wings have re-signed unrestricted free agent defenseman Mathieu Schneider to a two-year contract, TFP has learned. Schneider, 36, has played in 992 career NHL games, accumulating 168 goals and 384 assists for 552 points, along with 963 penalty minutes.
The New York native was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the 3rd round (44th overall) in 1987 and won the Stanley Cup with the Habs during the 1992-93 season.
Schneider is a two-time All-Star and has played with the Red Wings, NY Islanders, Toronto Maple Leafs, NY Rangers, Los Angeles Kings and Canadiens.
