Predators eyeing Lindros
TheFourthPeriod.com
Speculation yesterday in Nashville yesterday suggested the Predators have interested in unrestricted free agent Eric Lindros, reports The Tennessean.
Predators GM David Poile, however, said Lindros is an interesting option but isn't at the top of his wish list.
"We've talked about most everybody," Poile told the newspaper. "On our boards we've got different groupings of different players and we have his name in an area of some interest. But right now we're talking to other people."
The Edmonton Oilers, Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers are also reportedly interested in Lindros' services. Lindros has accumulated 356 goals, 461 assists and 1,285 penalty minutes in his ten-year NHL career.
The Edmonton Oilers...are also reportedly interested in Lindros' services. No they're not.
Well I hope the Oilers aren't seriously considering bringing this piece of dead weight to a team that is looking up for the first time in several years. Yeah, they are in need of a (possible big name) centre, but in my opinion, Eric Lindros would not be that name they need.
He should go to Nashville - the hockey coldbed.

Nashville is a good, young, up and coming team
I don't think Lindros would be a good fit.

 Yesterday everyone was saying he's all but in Toronto... I can't see Nashville pursuing him very hard. Once the leafs finalize the Allison deal, I expect Lindros in Toronto aswell, to hopefully play the wing.

Careful what you wish for Johnny. Even if, IF Lindros is as good as he was before his most recent concussion (remember, he hasn't played in the NHL since Jason Doig caught him with his head down, again, in February of 2004)... You are still just begging to be dissappointed. Trust me - you don't want Lindros taking up valuable roster space on your team.
His concussion problems affect him for months at a time, it's very plain to see. I watched him on the Rangers for 3 years through the good and bad. He has a very distinct pattern. he plays like his head is in a fog, you can literally see the look on his face. Then gradually he starts to show some life. Some snazzy pass plays, maybe starts to put together a mini-scoring streak. I'll get to the point, he'll eventually play himself back to the Eric of old, and you get used to it, you start to expect it. and then one shift - BAM - he gets caught with his head down... and after a few months out and visits to the specialist, he gets cleared to play. But he's back in that fog, until he gradually comes around...again....
This is how it goes, he cannot be relied on for even a short term solution, forget about a long one. Trust me on this. I watched him do what I just described, for 3 years. If anything he should retire. If the game is going to "open up" like they say, mr. head-down is going to get his clock cleaned on the open ice, and next time he might not get up.

That may be the case, but at around the league minimum, he's worth the risk. He's had almost 2 years to recover from his last one, so that fog may be out of the way. If he gets hurt again, well thats a risk we know we're taking.

I don't see it that way, Lindros is a big presence on a team. There were times where he was cleared to play on the Rangers, and when you have Eric Lindros cleared to play on your team... he plays.
I felt at certain junctures with the Rangers, the roster spot and ice time would have been better spent on some other player. But like I said, when Eric's cleared to play, he plays. Even if his play is detrimental. Why? because he'll work his way out of the funk to give you a 3 week flash of his full potential. What I'm trying to say is that only a small portion of his playing time is "worth it". Don't be lured down that road, even for the league minimum. I'm not talking money, I'm talking his overall effect on the team. It won't be any different in Toronto.

Here's the main reason the Leafs need to sign Lindros and take the chance:
We have no team.
Barring some kind of deal to clear up cap room(which is starting to look a lot more of a reality to me) we have absolutely no one. We have 4, count it 4, top 9 forwards, and then we have another 4 4th line forwards. We are gasping for straws, anybody who want to come is welcomed regardless of their previous injuries. Can anyone toss us a life preserver

Exactly.. lol.

You guys don't have it as bad as the Rangers. Here is who we currently have up front.
Martin Straka
Michael Nylander
Jaromir Jagr
Wow! a whole line!
Defense:
Marek Malik
Jason Marshall
Jason Strudwick
Tom Poti
Dale Purinton
Darius Kasparitis
Karel Rachunek
Are you envious yet?
Kevin Weekes and Mike Dunham in goal. That's it.
Just when you think things cannot get worse they do........ Jaromir Jagr is in a unique situation... if he had an ounce of character, he could take charge of this team for the next 5-7 years and lead a developing young group to greatness... along the way if he stays dominant he could land himself at #2 on the NHL all time score list, and go down in history as one of the great NHL players to have ever lived.
But he's actually considering playing in Russia... why? because he'll make more money for less work. Some character all right. And that's the one and only "notable" player the Rangers have. Ok stop ranting.
So what's your point Mel?
This - even as low down as the Rangers are right now... if Eric Lindros offered to come back to the Rangers and play for FREE... if it was up to me I would say NO!
I swear on my life, my families life, and a stack of bibles, no no no no no!
Any GM who rolls the dice on him should be fired on the spot.
