I guess Brewer's stock dropped. :D

How do you figure that, he was just the center piece in a deal that landed a top 5 dman in the NHL. I don`t know what to do with myself!
Giggity!

Who's next to fall into Kevin Lowe's grasp?
:D
This is a great deal for both teams. Even better for the oil if they can lock up pronger for just the one year. Any word on that, I didn't see that in the article, it doesn't even say of pronger will accept the qualifying offer? If pronger only accepts the qualifying offer, he will become a UFA next season and if he signs elsewhere this deal could look bad. Anyone know what his intentions are??
Wow, way to go Lowe. What a pickup! Pronger seems like such a good fit in Edmonton. Good luck!

FIVE
Rumour is 5.5 a year.
FIVEIs that a high five or are you trying to tell me he signed for 5 years and if so, I'd like to read about and if so this is a very good deal for the Oil. Ok I see you edited your post, the rumour is 5.5 per for 5 years. Thx.

We`re hearing that`s an average, but it`s hard to say right now.
Regardless, it`s a great move by the Oilers :).
Its probably close to true those numbers, I can't imagine a trade happening with a possible UFA next year happening unless the GM had assurances that said player would sign a long term deal. Unless Nonnis gets off his can its looking like Calgary/Edmonton 1, 2 or Edmonton/Calgary 1,2. A good day for 2 western canadian teams.

Couldn't agree more.
Know what I truly can't wait for? The battles that Iginila and Pronger are bound to have.. and will have on EIGHT seperate occasions this season!
Somehwat OT, but how does this affect Lowe's ability to grab that C now? He essentially still has in the area of 6-7 million to spend, and he's now in possesion of some proof that this is a team that wants to win and wants to win NOW. Could it be enough for Forsberg? That's shooting for the sky, even I can admit it, however after Forsberg who else is available?
I see a few guys after Forsberg available, but the only C is Zhamnov...
Anyway, wow!
Nasland really wants that cup and if the rumours are true about Forsburg, who knows a package deal for 1 year, at 3 to 3.5 per? I wonder if my oiler jersey still fits from the 80's? Its got 99 on it....;)

At center I can see the Oilists going after Zhamnov.
What they really need is a top flight goalie.
Good move by Edmonchuck.
St. Louis should have gotten rid of Weight and Kachuck before Pronger though.

Wow. I never would've guessed he'd land in Edmonton. Great trade guys! :)

Nice to see a quality player coming to Edmonton, instead of leaving.

Indeed
This was a great deal for the Oilers
I am liking what I am seeing in this new NHL. In the old one, this would never happen..sad to say. Due to salaries etc.
But this is good..it shows that any team can be competitive, and get excellent players

5 years at 6 mil per. Hopefully that sets the market.

It *should* force Niedermayer to lower his sights. It's a bit heavier than I'd like to see (I was hoping for 5.5.. but I can live with the extra 500k ;))
The more I think about it, the more Zhamnov makes sense. He's affordable (Should be around 3 mil, I'd think) and would still improve the PP, keep the 5x5 the same and.. is one of the best penalty shot shooters of all time. I hate to say it, but having a guy who's money in the shootout is going to be important.
