Sportsnet has learned Pavol Demitra has agreed to a 3-year, $13.5 million dollar deal with the Los Angeles Kings.

Demitra scored 23 goals, adding 35 assists in 68 games for St. Louis during the 2003-04 season.

While Demitra is on the way in, it looks like longtime Kings sniper Jason Allison is on the way out. Sources tell Sportsnet that the Toronto Maple Leafs are close to signing the free agent forward.

It is also widely speculated that the Stars' Mike Modano and Toronto's Brian Leetch will be signing in Boston.

Wow, can Boston really afford all these players? Murray, McEachern, Thornton, Modano, Leetch? If they can, jesus look out for Boston, but I'm not convinced.

Thornton will likely be dealt.

I'm not sure. Before Murray was signed, I'd totally agree

But Murray and Thornton are buddies..linemates

Didn't Thornton say earlier, that he wanted the Bruins to resign Murray? And it would make a difference

I kind of wanted to see if Murray could perform without Thornton next to him. There still is the chance of that happening. Murray has consistantly put up good numbers but it would be interesting to see if it was because of Thornton or if the two just complimented each other.

Leetch to Boston makes sense. He played college hockey there (although his stay was a short one). He is a New Englander (Connecticut).

Actually I had heard that Leetch was seriously considering retirement... but if his name is active in the rumor mill, then that's obviously not the case.

I do know that his chances of making a return to Broadway are 0% as long as Glen Sather is within a stone's throw (because Leetchie would probably throw a stone at him).

I think that inking Murray will help get Thornton back. I'm with terms that we won't have Brian Leetch this season. He played good while he was here, but he clearly doesn't fit into this years plans.

Pretty good pickup for the Kings. Demitra is a very solid player, too bad him and Conroy won't have Palffy there to put pucks in the net.

Here is Murray's career point totals
1991-1992 Bruins 4
1992-1993 Bruins 7
1993-1994 Bruins 31
1994-1995 Bruins 7
1995-1996 Penguins 29
1996-1997 Penguins 22
1996-1997 Kings 8
1997-1998 Kings 60
1998-1999 Kings 31
1999-2000 Kings 62
2000-2001 Kings 39
2001-2002 Kings 11
2001-2002 Bruins 60
2002-2003 Bruins 92
2003-2004 Bruins 60

It looks as if he's enjoyed some of his most productive times with Thornton.

That's kind of too bad. Even though I'm not the biggest Rangers fan, Leetch just seemed like he would always be with the Rangers til the end of his career. Was a little disappointed to see New York let him go last year.

You're not alone. It was a knife to the heart of every single Ranger fan.

But it did make business sense for the Rags to deal him. I mean they were burning down the team and starting from scratch... so hanging on to Leetch for sentimental reasons, when he was still commanded much value in a trade would not have made sense.

Yeah that's true, but I was still surprised not to see the NYR management not make a shot at him this offseason (who knows maybe they have).

We here on the westcoast have had that same knife through our hearts when fans sat with their mouths wide open in shock as the management was allowed to get rid of fan favourites Linden, Gelinas, Ronning, the Courtnalls, the whole Bure situation, Lumme, etc. while picking up team enemies Esa Tikkanen and Mark Messier.

He'd likely have to beat the offer by quite a bit more than that, Brian. Demitra has gone on record before saying although he would play in Canada, he strongly prefers the US and if he could pick his cities (ie. if he if he becomes a UFA) an American franchise would prevail barring a much better offer from up north.

I agree, and rumour is that not only were we offering more than that, but so were other teams, even in the US (Atlanta anyone?).
