My goodness, did Columbus just hit the jackpot.

Hasn't Columbus learned yet that signing random UFA's isn't going to solve their problems?

Fact is, Foote or not, this is still a bad team.

Before it was a bad team with Nash on it, now it's a bad team with Nash and Foote on it, and possibly Zherdev.

Still, this is how you build a team with a #1 defenceman and a top scorer, from there you're halfway home :thumb:

That's just asking for it Rusty.. you know I won't hit ya for it.. but you Leafers make it far too easy :coffee:

Except that top scorer wouldn't know his own end of the ice if it slapped him upside the head! He still has a lot to learn.

Actually out of the whole crop this year, he was one of my favourites.

He is truly what we need in the D Zone!

I'm not saying he isn't, I'm just saying it's a really bad idea to set yourself up like that ("man, that's a guy Toronto should've got!").

Trust me, I was hoping to see a Brewer - Foote pairing next season as well.

Signing still doesn't make any sense though.

I saw somewhere that it was for 3 years and $13.5. Foote gives them a solid defenceman and leadership.

And any chance Aucoin had of getting that kind of money is now gone.. that's a pretty decent signing league wide, $4,500,000 / year for a top tier defenseman.

I bet Niedermayer still expects his 7.8.....

This signing most likely lowered his sites to $6,000,000.. great job Columbus!

The speculation I hear is that nobody will top $5 million. If revenues are down for the upcoming season, the Cap drops to $35 Million and $7 Million is too much to be on the hook for.

Forsberg/Iginila could very well be the 2 exceptions to that rule... if no one will top $5,000,000.. consider me a very happy person, as the Oilers could/should be signing 2 "top tier" talents :D

KB I gotta say that is one of the more clever thread titles I have seen on any forum.

O yeah, and good for you you Hummers, Foote will help you out even though we all know he wanted to be wearing an orca next season. :]

So I guess I am not allowed to dream, for fear that we get bashed for wanting to improve our team?

That is so sad John, just because we want to improve our team we get slammed, that is what is really starting to bug me with these Forums, we get flamed for our wants but yet fans of "other teams" do pretty much the same thing and it's A OK :thumb: .............

Please do not speak of improving your team!

Except all teams other then.................. well you know who?.......

Hence the introduction of the Warning Point System right? You're right though, fans of certain teams should be able to make inane trade proposals and proclamations of every UFA wanting to sign with their team with-out being called on it.

See now that's a good way to look at it. I think the same thing when players like Havlat or Alfredson draw so much attention from our rival fans for some insignificant action. I find it actually funny that people can develop such hatred over such trivial things. Can you say inferiority complex =]

I can't, no. But, hey... most of us are just clowning around anyhow...right? =]

You?re just jealous because Alfredson gets so much more bounce in his hair then you. This is exactly what I was pointing out to Amoroq, pure jealousy of our clowns.. I mean skilled players with nice hair =]

But it's still a better team than before and a step in the right direction. Given they have the cap room I just don't see how this can be considered a bad signing. Jealous? ;)

I'll admit it - I am. Chara/Phillips, Redden/Foote, de Vries/Volchenkov = freakin' sweet blueline. The best defense the modern day NHL has ever seen? Quite possibly. Too bad there was never a chance it would happen....
