Bruins to make "huge" trade?
TheFourthPeriod.com
Bruins GM Mike O'Connell said the B's have a target list of free agents they would like to sign today, reports the Boston Herald. "I really don't know how it's going to play out," O'Connell told the Herald. "All I can say is we're ready. There's a big list of available guys out there. We're ready to roll.
"Am I optimistic we can get the guys we want? I don't know. It's a whole new market." O'Connell's main priority, however, may be putting the finishing touches on what he deems a "huge" trade.
"I think it will happen or be dead by (today)," he said. Speculation immediately suggests the Bruins may deal one of Joe Thornton or Sergei Samsonov, both of whom will be unrestricted free agents next summer if they do not sign a long-term deal to stay in Boston.
"These guys are restricted free agents," O'Connell said of Samsonov and Thornton. "We've made our qualifying offers to them. If worse comes to worse, and they play on a one-year contract, we'll go that way."
