Carlyle is the head coach of the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League, the minor league affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks. New Mighty Ducks general manager Brian Burke is familiar with Carlyle from his days with the Canucks.
Shortly after joining the Mighty Ducks earlier this month, Burke offered former head coach Mike Babcock a new contract but Babcock refued the deal and was subsequently hired as the new head coach of the Detroit Red Wings
